Stevie Serenaded Koz on his Birthday
[From article on Dave Koz]
Windy City Times by Jerry Nunn, 2015-07-21 http://www.windycitymediagroup.com/l...-CD/52213.html WCT: You have done so many collaborations over the years. How do you whittle them down [to one CD]? * * * There's also Stevie Nicks [in "Let Me Count the Ways"]. She's been a friend for a long time, but to get a superstar like that to sing on my album was a big coup. I remember the day—March 26, 1996—and she was scheduled to come at eight in the evening; she got there at 11 p.m. I was so happy she was there; this was a true rock star. So she was there for a half-hour—and then she disappears! Thirty minutes later, at the stroke of midnight, she walks back into the studio with a cake and candles—because it was my birthday at the stroke of midnight. She then sang "Happy Birthday" to me—which will go down as the best rendition of that song ever. Then, in 10 minutes flat, she did the vocal to the song. |

I'm not a fan of smooth jazz (or even saxophone songs) but I have ALWAYS loved that tune! Thanks for sharing, Michele! Interesting to hear the backstory of the recording!

Three hours is really like a half hour in Stevie time.

That's very funny, but so true. She lives in her own time/space.

I've always liked this song-so different for Stevie-very simple and sweet. Thanks for sharing that story-I've always sort of wondered about it.

I am a bit confused about this album. I am not a jazz fan or anything, matter of fact, I can honestly say that Kenny G puts me to sleep. But I was interested enough to look that song up because I have never heard it. Well I went to Itunes to look it up and the song Stevie did is not on it. I also looked through all of his songs and it wasn't there. So I went to Youtube and it was the very first video, so I did get to hear it. So today I decided to look it up on Amazon and the album there had Stevie's song and a few other songs that are not on the Itunes version. This album also had The Game of Thrones theme but the Itunes version doesn't. So what gives? Did he put out 2 different versions of the same album or something. Well anyway I actually kind of liked the song and I thought Stevie sang very well on it. I just thought it was weird.
