Zipcar

This might be a shot in the dark, but has anyone had any experience with Zipcar?

I recently signed up for a membership, though have yet to use it. I just spent some time reading reviews online before I make my first reservation and am getting a little bit nervous by the negative experiences being shared (mostly regarding the state of the car, the availability and insurance issues). A lot of the reviews are from two or three years ago, when the company was younger, so I'm hoping that experiences have improved. Luckily, Zipcar does have the option of canceling a membership within 30 days of signing up but seeing as I would actually like to use the service within the next week or so, I'm kind of trying to figure out if I really want to go this route or not. Any experiences would be appreciated!

I have used it in NYC and Atlanta. I never had any huge problems. Every now and then, the interior may be a little dirty or a smoker had the car. But, they clean them like twice a week. So, it is rare. I have mostly good things to say about it.

You should go for it....Zipcar was started by a Wellesley grad!

Okay, that was useless, but really, a lot of people use it at Wellesley, and I've never heard any complaints. I'm actually really considering getting a membership myself this coming school year.

ZipCar is great service if you live in an urban area. It works for me because San Francisco has ZipCar lots everywhere. I usually rent the Priuses because they're only $7/hr. They've come in handy for short trips like grocery runs and doctor's appointments.

I LOVE Zipcar. I don't own a car- I hate driving- but Zipcar is perfect for short day trips. Portland is hardly a densely populated urban area, but there are Zipcars all over town, and several in my (residential) neighborhood.

Well, I made my first reservation for Sunday! We'll see how it goes. I'm going out to a concert on Long Island and didn't want to have to deal with calling a cab and waiting for a train afterwards, so figured it'd be a good test run. Hopefully it all goes well! Already, someone has reserved the car up till the minute I need it, of course!
