GoS Song Ranking
For me, Gift of Screws is the best solo album Lindsey has made with the exception of Out of the Cradle. I can honestly say I've never heard a song like "Great Day" before; to my ears, that track is almost like a whole new kind of music of its own, although I guess it does have a little (but only a little) in common with a couple of the tracks from Go Insane. Between "Great Day" and the rocking title track, Gift of Screws is one of the best albums I've heard this year.
Even though it's only been our for a few days, I'm curious how everybody would rank the songs on Gift of Screws, from their favorite to least favorite. For me, it's like this: 1. Great Day 2. Gift of Screws 3. Underground 4. Right Place to Fade 5. Wait for You 6. Bel Air Rain (top 3 lyrically, bottom 3 musically) 7. Did You Miss Me 8. Love Runs Deeper 9. Time Precious Time 10. Treason What does everyone else think? Ken |

I'd have to say:
1. RPTF 2. Wait for You 3. Great Day 4. Bel Air Rain 5. Treason 6. GOS 7. Did you Miss Me 8. Underground 9. Love Runs Deeper 10. Time Precious Time I'd like to compile a "Gift of Screws" collection with ALL of the songs from SYW, GOS the two from UTS and the rest of the missing GOS tracks. |

1. Underground 2. Twist of Fate... The Right Place to Fade 3. Shuffle Riff... Wait For You 4. Gift of Screws 5. Bel Air Rain 6. Did You Miss Me 7. Time Precious Time 8. Love Runs Deeper (The Chorus would do better without the verses) 9. Great Day 10. Treason The first six are almost tied, I love them all so much. This album is one hair beneath OOTC in my all time ranking (UTS is my all time #1). This album definitely lived up to the expectations that the demos set for it. My only complaint (and to only have one on an entire Lindsey album is saying a lot) it that there is no Given Thing or My Little Demon, these would have been a perfect match. Well, there is always next time... |

Well, Treason is #9 and Time Precious Time is #10. I really can't rank the rest. They all are pretty much up there at #1 or #2.

1. Great Day - Just think it's an awesome track and reminds me of songs on Go Insane, which I think is my favorite Lindsey solo album (it's hard to choose!)
2. Gift of Screws - I admit, I'm surprised how high this ranks. I've had it for quite some time, always loved it, but even of the original GOS tracks out there, it was never my top favorite. But I can't get enough of it now. The maniacal laughter is addictive and I crack up every time. 3. Love Runs Deeper - Great song, the last minute or so is absolutely sublime. 4. Time Precious Time - I agree with a poster who said that this song makes them feel like they are being lifted up. I feel like I'm getting some kind of calming massage, or being gently pelted by small comforting cushions, whenever I listen to this. It's very zen and brings me to a peaceful, zoned out place 5. Bel Air Rain - I like the feel of this song and especially like Lindsey singing along with his guitar part at the end. 6. Wait For You - Such a fun journey this song takes us on! 7. Right Place to Fade - I am still convinced he is saying Twist of Fate! 8. Underground - Whenever this song comes on, I think I don't actually want to listen to it and then the guitar on the chorus kicks in and I'm sold. 9. Did You Miss Me - Still not feeling this song too much. I can see why some people love it, though. 10. Treason - Just hasn't grown on me at all yet, though I do like it. There are no songs on this album I actively dislike, and I flat out love at least the top 6, possible Top 7. Such a strong album! Last edited by bucklind17; 09-21-2008 at 08:17 PM.. |

While I will accept that he might be saying "right place to fade" sometimes in the song, I am convinced that he also says "twist of fate." I heard the "t" on his tongue. I am not crazy. Don't gaslight me Lindsey Buckingham. You are no Charles Boyer!
You know, oddly enough, none of the GOS songs on this album are the ones I listened to. It's really strange how that worked out. I was into Deep Dense, Given Thing, Wear You Down and some of the songs released on previous albums, but I wasn't into any of the ones on the new album, so they all sound fresh. What a revelation. 1-Underground--hands down. No real reason other than it's beautiful.
Tied at second... Wait for You, Treason, Time Precious Time Tied at third... Right Place to Fade, Did You Miss Me, Love Runs Deeper (yeah, I jumped on the bandwagon somewhere along the way) Tied at fourth Great Day, Gift of Screws Last... Bel Air Rain But, being on the bottom doesn't mean much. I listen and enjoy them. Just not as much as the others. It really is a good album. I'm not crazy about Bel Air Rain, and I think it's a combo of the lyrics and me trying to figure out where the hell I've heard all of that stuff before. But, it's not bad. |

I completely agree. I have listened every way possible, and am also convinced he's saying Twist of Fate.

1. Right Place to Fade
2. Great Day 3. Underground 4. Love Runs Deeper 5. Wait For You 6. Time Precious Time (I've never had an issue with it and think the studio version is beautiful) 7. Treason 8. Did You Miss Me (can't believe it's so low, but I guess the over-playing had something to do with that) 9. Gift of Screws 10. Bel Air Rain (This is at the end simply because I haven't listened to it that much, so in comparison to the others it's not in the forefront of my adoration) This album is really special. Individually, I could take any of these songs and enjoy their brilliance, where as his last album I'd say was more meant to be a cohesive unit. With the exception of Show You how and It Was You, I had to really listen to it all the way through to appreciate it's beauty.

Here is my ranking. Wonder if it will change a month or two from now:
1. Right Place To Fade (good to hear LB rocking again) 2. Love Runs Deeper (I could go back and forth between the top two being my favorite on the album, but when the chorus kicks in on this song, it totally moves me) 3. Treason (this song is really growing on me. Gorgeous melody, possibly my favorite lyrically) 4. Did You Miss Me 5. Underground 6. Wait For You 7. Gift Of Screws 8. Great Day 9. Time Precious Time (the chorus is too repititious for me, but the guitar playing is stunning, and even more so if you can watch him play it live) 10. Bel Air Rain (this song has not clicked with me yet) |

I like every track on here except TPT. Treason would be my next 'least favorite'.
I LOVE Love Runs Deeper, Gift of Screws, and Did You Miss Me. Thats about as much ranking as I can do. |

I still think SYH was a career masterpiece and I'm sad to think I might never hear it in concert again. But I am thankful for the Bass Hall DVD. Michele |
