Default Frostwire anyone???

Kazaa.....Limewire....Frostwire.....?

Who can give me the lowdown on what happened to these sharing services? I used Kazaa, until it was shut down...then Limewire....then Frostwire. I'm still occasionally able to find a song or two on FW, but it seems to be finished now, too, for the most part. Once in a while I'll find a song, but it's RARE to, now....

Can someone tell me, did something take it's place?

Where do y'all DL your free music?

I wouldn't touch those with a digital 10 foot pole.I dont want to get fines up my rear-end.I notice youtube is getting tunes posted on it.They are not keeping up with the sound deletion or dumping the links. This is the first time I heard of Frostwire.

I hated Limewire. It was slow, unreliable and crammed with viruses. I know several people who lost really good computers to it. Good riddance!

I don't download free music much. If I want the odd tune I'll usually convert the youtube video using vidtomp3 or something similar.

If I want a song I use mediafire. I just go to google, type in the artist name, song name, and the word mediafire, and then it usually shows up. If it's not there, then I try 4shared using the same process. And if I still can't find it I usually just give up and buy it on iTunes. I don't trust other websites. Last year when I was first getting into Fleetwoo Mac and Stevie Nicks I tried downloading the Bella Donna album off of some random website and it gave me laptop a virus, which cost me $200 to get removed.

Thanks guys!

Limewire was virus filled. I too, caught several viruses. I finally learned how to figure out, from glancing at their download info, which titles were legitimate, and which ones not.

Frostwire pretty much took the place of Limewire, with more virus protection. Frostwire still fires up fine, but 95% of the time, BOGUS files are all that's available. It's just like there are no legitimate people on there anymore.

Alan, can you give me a link, to that converter?

Yup - that was the problem with limewire too.

I use www.vidtomp3.com

How about just buying your music?

No, really.

My excuse? I play in a cover band. I have to learn about 10 new songs a month. I'm not going to pay for them, unless it's an artist I really care about. If anything, I'm probably helping the artist, by hopefully getting these songs stuck in people's heads, and hopefully they purchase the songs.

^^^Lame argument? Maybe. But it's the only one I have(have I mentioned that I'm also CHEAP?)

I DO buy CD's of the artists(especially smaller, struggling artists) that I care about.

I still buy all my music.

It costs a fair bit but I can't deal with the fear of being stuck with £1000's worth of fines.

Yeah, I'm with this. There's so many free streaming services these days that if you really want a song to OWN, purchase it. You can listen to it endlessly on Spotify or LastFM or YouTube or Pandora to enjoy/learn/pick it apart. Want it on your ipod or computer? Pay the buck.

Think of this way. If you want a pair of pants for work, do you go into the store and grab them and not pay for them just because you need them for work and not for going out on your own time?

I use Youtube for a source and convert with DVDVideoSoft Free Studio to mp3 file.Forget Bittorrent because the sites are loaded with viruses. I found some public forums that have links to those offsite drivespace sites like Fileserve,,Deposit Files,Megaupload,Uploading.com and Filesonic links. Most of them are safe as I tryed them.As of now Youtube is the way to go to sample new music. As I thinking about the last cd that I bought which happens to be Stevie's IYD cd last May.

I do like dvdvideosoft. I remember getting almost unnaturally excited when I discovered it. I've never been able to get torrents to work.

I think somebody on here mention the software to me.A very powerful software package for free.On the torrent dept I use Winamp. They play Flac files great through it.Plus I use Cool Edit Pro or Total Recorder for editing Flac files. On downloading them I have Bit Tornado client software.Which works great.

That reminds me...

There was an article in Rolling Stone about a year ago (2010 had Stephen Colbert on the cover.)

It discussed a free site in Europe that was in the making which was similar to Limewire/Frostwire/Napster but hadn't gone live yet. It had a different spin on the concept of compensating the artist AND being able to provide free cost to the music listener.... I will have to see if I can find the article and see if it indeed was able to launch.
