Question Brazilian Blowout?

Has anyone had this done? Did you like the results? Pros/Cons? My hair is so frizzy in the summer I hate it!

Brazilian blowouts use some freaky chemicals including formaldehyde (a carcinogen). It's more dangerous for the hairdressers than the clients because they're there every day, but the idea of having chemicals near my head freaks me out way too much, personally.

When I first read the title of this thread, I thought "what is that, some porn thing? Or waxing method?" Never heard of it, but that may be because my hair is straight as an arrow.

My Brazilian Blowout is the best $350 I ever spent on my hair. I absolutely LOVE it.

It basically takes all the frizz out of your hair but keeps the volume and a little bit of wave. When I first got mine done, it took 5 minutes to blow out my hair and I didn't even use a brush-- I'd just point my blow dryer at my head for 5 minutes and I came out with PERFECT salon blowout-worthy hair. Almost five months later, it's worn off a bit but my hair is still an entirely different creature than it was before the treatment. I can't wait to get my next one

-GASP- $350! I'm lucky if I clear that as my paycheck every month!

The salon I like claims there is no formaldehyde in it. http://www.aurasalon1155.com/products.html Paula, I knew somebody would think this was porn-related.

I can't really afford it right now either but I HATE my hair in summer.

i want to get this so bad. there is a groupon for this in the pittsburgh area for $99. i am tempted to buy it. that is such a steal. my hair is usually frizzy when i blow dry it so i have to flat iron just about everyday so i think this would really save my hair. none of the salons that do this in my area use formaldehyde.

I've heard about this at school and the teachers say the chemicals are more dangerous to the hairdressers then the clients..just like what Mezz said....But then again I never tried it or worked with the stuff so idk how it is...

I know Joico has some good stuff for the hair if you dont wanna spend that much money...

I can get one for only $200 at my salon in Seattle. I'm tempted to make it happen before I leave but I'm so broke that it's a terrible idea haha.

We're on the same page with this one. My hair is straight as an arrow as well. I get complements on the color all the time, so maybe that makes up for my lack of the ability to grow a fro.

My stylist said my salon on only schedules them once a week. So the chemicals in the formaldehyde-free version are still probably not so great for them. It is likely the repeated exposure that is hazardous whereas a client will only receive exposure every few months. I've gotta find out what they charge.

Just thought I'd share that I went to a hair show today and Paul Brown was featured today(Paul Brown was actually there too lol) and they showed us and did a live demonstration of "HAPUNA KERATIN RETEXTURIZER SYSTEM" its like a "brazilian blowout" but less advasive...plus it doesnt have the formaldehyde, aldehyde, or Thio in it. Its practically "green"

The demo had this girl who had wavy curly hair and was kinda frizzy....they put the stuff on it...let it sit...brought her out back to wash it out...then she came oit with wet hair and they only blow dried half of it(without a brush) and it was really straight...not frizzy...smooth...wicked awesome! She walked around and let us feel her hair.

So this is definatly a must try...I wanna buy it and try it on ashley's mom

I don't know what this is, Suze, but it sounds like fun. Would I enjoy it?

Ha no! You have to sit there for 1 1/2 hrs as your hair is blown dry, straightened, has solution applied, washed, blown dry, and straightened again. Then you can't do anything to your hair for 3 days to make sure the keratin sets. I suppose there could be modifications made to make it more enjoyable! I know those Brazilians can be pretty sassy.

You should try the Paul Brown Retexturizer that I posted...
