Default "It Was You" - beautiful song / shipper's nightmare?

anyone actually listen to the lyrics on this one? it's a beautiful song that i don't have the time to type out, but it definitely puts the nails in the S&L coffin.

any interps on the new songs?

I said the same thing on 7Wonders. My dreams are crushed but I will always have the memories.

Those were the days....

I thought they were really nice lyrics. It's nice to get something like that from Lindsey. Shows he really loves his wife and kids.

Having said that, I hope that not all his songs become like this in the future! A few songs is cool, but I like the angsty Lindsey!

I just finished listening to the mp3s while jogging (yeah, I'm a nerd...I listen to Lindsey while jogging, 'k?), and I heard his childrens' names in the lyrics...so cool!

I figured the song was for Kristen the first time I listened to it, but I didn't hear the kids' names 'til today. I had to log on and see if anyone else heard it. Love the song more than ever now, but "Cast Away Dreams" is still my fave among the "new" three!

Yeppers, pretty much puts the ol' nail in the S & L coffin, eh?

Yep I'm in agreement 'It was you' was for Kristen, as is 'Show you how'??

I think both songs have a happy upbeat feel to them that I've not heard in Lindsey's songs in a long time.

I've been listening and loving 'Cast Away Dreams'!

I've read peoples views as to what this song is about. Isn't it about mortality. Dying and Leaving his young family??

Default eh..

I guess everyone interpret's songs differently.. The lyrics don't affect my feelings about SnL either way. Very nice sentiment about his children though. I like CastAway Dreams and Show You How alot more....they seem more "Lindsey". The lyrics sound more like stuff he usually writes.

yeah, i had these songs on loop today between classes and during the kids' bellwork. i've had plenty of time to obsess. i've also had plenty of wine so eff it with the chorus on It Was You...

It Was You

every day now
how the time has flown
every day now
i'm finally home
because i waited for a woman who was true
i waited for a woman - it was you

we would be too late
...
a future i couldn't see
the past is gone, william's here

lover we'll watch him grow every day now
i can hear the sound every day now
love is all around
because i waited for a woman who was true
i waited for a woman - it was you

we had to wait
wouldn't be too late
the past is gone
leelee's here

back in 99
our love...
...
past is gone, stella's here

Cast Away Dreams

holy night - visionary sight
there's been a change in plans
gone away - the dark cannot stay
i hope you'll understand

i won't be home tonight
i'll just slip out of sight
lay down my visionary eyes
dancing on my cast away dreams

keep yourself out of sight
farewell to the wishes that died
look for me in the morning light
dancing on my cast away dreams

magic one - all our dreams are done
i have no faith today
sun will rise in your newborn eyes
just let them slip away

i won't be home tonight
i'll just slip out of sight
lay down my visionary eyes
dancing on my cast away dreams

keep yourself out of sight
farewell to the wishes that died
look for me in the morning light
dancing on my cast away dreams

it would do no good to drown in the sea
where no one remembers their name and nothing is free
hearts will break with choices we must make
so sweetly dream of me

i won't be home tonight
i'll just slip out of sight
lay down my visionary eyes
dancing on my cast away dreams

keep yourself out of sight
farewell to teh wishes that died
lok for me in the morning light
dancing on my cast away dreams

look for me in the morning light
dancing on my cast away dreams

that's so lovely - without being over the top cheesy. i do love the sentiment of "past is gone... william (leelee, stella)'s here." it's the acknowledgement of his past, his obvious past with stevie, but such a strong message to kristen. i haven't heard the actual song yet, but i will... thanks for posting the lyrics.

Seriously?? I know it makes me sad...because in 1997 I was the BIGGEST shipper ever.

But I have given up on that long ago. It will never ever ever happen. Never.

Regarding Stevie and Lindsey. I start to wonder how real it all was. In the end...they went out a very short time and it was only dragged on because of the media for the most part and maybe a lot of drugs and alcohol.

The Dance was even bigger than it could have been because I believe a LOT of people, like me, saw something between Stevie and Lindsey. It was so hot to see them on stage and learn of their history. Their "love hate" relationship sold tickets.

But, though it breaks my heart, it was fake. It was all fake. They haven't considered each other in ages. They just played a game to sell tickets.

They are completely different people. Look who he married and look at Stevie...he didn't want Stevie at all.

It sucks...because I loved that magic but now I realize it's just fake. Oh well.

( but a tiny little part of me STILL wishes Stevie would release a bio and just admit that those two were all over each other until he met Kristin...LOL)

I think we need to start considering WHEN the songs were written and done a little more.

SGCYM and DoR were written .. most likely.. wayyy before Show You How and It Was You, which share some characteristics to my ear. I am Waiting and TTFTS were recorded way before too. Shut Us Down.. no idea when that was actually written, but I'd guess it was around the Elizabethtown time since it's a co-write. So.. that leaves us with Not Too Late, Under the Skin, CAD, and Juniper.. which all have a very similar feeling, imo.

Truth be told, as much as I love SGCYM and DoR, I find myself skipping over them now because they don't fit the "feeling flow" and sound of the album. GoS didn't happen and I'm sad about that.. because had his SYW tracks been combined with some of the GoS demos, that would have been one hell of an album, but it didn't happen, and now, to my ear, SGCYM and DoR are a bit out of place. For the first.. oh.. 15 album listens, I was glad they're there. Now, 20+ listens later, they just don't match up at all for me.

Analyzing this album all as "one piece" and one idea does not make a lick of sense because we know it's been in the works forever and ever. And I think it's REALLY, REALLY unfair to say that SGCYM and DoR are the "gems" because it sounds most like what we've already heard! We're just USED to them because we've had them on the village recorder and GoS demos forever.

I still love them, but just like the SYW stuff, quite frankly, I'm over it in the "new" feeling way. And if the new acoustic bits are what Lindsey wants to represent where he's going now, fine by me, he's got my attention. We're always holding up the banner of "ohh our Lindsey is so inventive and new" then when he actually DOES something pretty different for himself we want to call the recycled stuff we've already heard the only gem. That makes the temperature of my fan blood start to rise a bit. Maybe not boil, but rise, definitely.

And back on topic of It Was You, it almost sounds Mirage to me. I love the harmonies that are buried in the chorus. Are the Law and Order songs trite? Excuse the man for making a shorty. I find it to be a shining moment of happiness on a cd otherwise filled with tones of sadness, despair, and search for hope. This is a reflection of his life, and it's the only window he REALLY gives us to look at it. Trite is just offensive, regardless of who likes the song or doesn't.
