Default Earthquakapalooza!!!!

We keep having earthquakes on the Hayward fault, they are centered about a mile or two uphill from my house.
We just had two this morning, a 3.5 around 9:20, then a smaller one around 10:00.
We had a 3.7 last night around 10:00, and a 3.7 on the 20th. The one last night scared the s*** out of me. My cats were no help, I always thought they would behave strangely before an earthquake, so I would know. In reality, they were sleeping, then all ran to my closet during the quakes. The quakes were smallish, but they still thumped the crap out of my house.
Anyhoo, what I'm really, really hoping is that all these small quakes on our Hayward fault means there won't be a big giant quake anytime soon. Please?
The last big one on this fault that is ever so close to my house was around 1850.
My most fun thing to tell people is how the Cal Berkeley football stadium, which holds 10,000 people, runs lengthwise over the fault line. The line perfectly bisects the stadium. Yep, right in the middle. Stupid. For any of you kids who were with me for Petty, that's where the stadium is, near the Greek.

I know, right? But there's all these stories of pets knowing when there is an earthquake coming. Like, neighborhood cats disappear before it, all dogs in the neighborhood start howling five minutes before it, all that crap.

I mean, I didn't think they would help me pack up my kit, or clean up rubble or anything, you know.

I should get a dog. A dog would protect and serve me. A dog would tell me about an earthquake. A dog would carry my supplies on it's back, and faithfully stick by me in my tent homelessness. My cats would hide in my closet, scratch my face off if I tried to get them out, then scatter in the wind during my tent homelessness. They would bring me dead mice, while my dog would hunt in choice dumpsters for whole discarded but still delicious hamburgers.

i've got three for you to choose from.

choice a: sweet, loyal, but blind and crippled
choice b: sweet, loyal, but fearful of everything, unless she's on a leash
choice c: tiny, spoiled, useless, unless you thrive on "cute"

take your pick!

I'd use similar adjectives to describe my three cats...

I want a big ol' German Shepard! In the tradition of owners looking like their dogs, we'll both have hip displaysia.

Amby,

Glad you are okay. Earthquakes are one of my biggest fears. I really don't want to be sucked into the depths of the Earth. And here I'm trying to find a job in Cali.

Thanks. Yeah, they are totally freaking me out. They are smallish, but since they are two inches from my house, they shake it all around and make a big "boom!"
I was reading an earthquake site, frequent myths and all that - the earth doesn't swallow people. Also, small quakes don't really alleviate the pressure and prevent bigger quakes. Damn.
I am glad I am leaving town for a few days.

Oh, and I've been here 8 years and haven't felt an earthquake until now, so maybe you could work here for a couple years.... *as I selfishly want another fun concert buddy*.

Guess you no longer want to be seen with an old non-nano-knowing loser.

Amber, I didn't feel any of the quakes this week. Usually I feel even the smallest ones.

Amber, I felt the earthquake too. I totally forgot about it until I saw this thread. I've always thought earthquakes feel fun although I've never had anything serious happen.

Odd. They felt them up in Orinda. They were 3.7. You are lucky, though. No one has reported damage, but, you know, three quakes in 3-4 days, plus smaller ones...freaky...
I'm definitely going to be sad if we have a bigger one. I have this vision of my house collapsing into the downstairs, with my stairs still standing up perfectly...
