Round 4: Miles Away
You're all a bunch of damned morons. Voting off "Somebody" & "Keep On Going"?!
What a bunch of stupid loons. What a bunch of rank, spur-galled dewberries ... a bunch of venomed, fly-bitten varmints ... a passel of clouded, dizzy-eyed barnacles ... wayward, folly-fallen pumpions ... tottering, clapper-clawed moldwarps!!! Honest to Christ ... what is with you artless, witless, fat-kidneyed gudgeons?

But Christine McVie singing "Keep On Going" -- that's the very essence ... the QUINTESSENCE, if you will ... of Fleetwood Mac! "Quintessence" is a interesting word, by the way. First seen in writing sometime in the fifteenth century, it meant "substance latent in all things, the extraction of which was one of the objects of alchemy"; thus, by extension, it acquired the meaning, by the sixteenth century, "most essential part." The Latin is, of course, "quinta" ("fifth") "essentia" ("essence") -- referring, in mediaeval alchemy, to the fifth primary body besides the base four elements: earth, fire, air, water. So the "quintessence" was the fifth essence: the chemical essence derived from earth, fire, air, & water. To extend the trope connotatively in Fleetwood Mac's direction, the four base elements (John, Mick, Lindsey, Stevie) remain the base essences; but Christine McVie is the "fifth" essence, derived from the other four in such a way as to alchemically generate the splendor & magic of the separate parts -- for without the fifth essence, the other four remain base.

Killer lead guitar work by Bob Weston, great lyrics, vocal delivery & acoustic guitar work by Bob Welch, great harmonies from Christine & Weston, and Mick was definitely on his game throughout this entire album. "Miles Away" one of the HIGHLIGHTS of the Mystery To Me album.

I love "Miles Away." It has that artsy/college/indie rock vibe that I absolutely love.
