Mck: FM finishing new album, SN likely not involved
i think this needs a separate discussion thread since it's buried in the MBB and Mirage interview threads:

Ungrateful goat.
Edit - although I will say, as long as they release it, I'm good. Actually, if it means more duets with LB and Chris, I'm actually grateful she's ungrateful!

Me too!!!!!!! Finally, some common sense. Lindsey and Christine are magic. Stevie found magic on 24k Gold. I would love another Tango In The Night and 24k Gold.

TO ME, this quote from Mick in NO WAY sounds like they are ready and willing to release an album WITHOUT Stevie. Yes, it sounds like the album is basically FINISHED and just needs 3 of Stevie's new songs and some added Stevie harmony vocals on the completed tracks. This could easily be done is 6 weeks, just like the "Tango In The Night" situation where Stevie was NOT present for 90% of the recording process. MARK MY WORDS: At this stage in the game, Fleetwood Mac will NEVER release an album as a QUARTET WITHOUT Stevie. It's just not a possibility. Stevie will finish her solo hobby. Late next year, she'll phone in some songs for the Mac to complete, later spending 4-6 weeks in the studio. Case closed. |

Homer, I agree with you that Mick Fleetwood is an ungrateful goat. Stevie released 24 Karat and then went on that long tour with FM and only now is touring to promote her album. He should wait a few more months and once Stevie's done with her tour, she'll have time to record with the band.

“But never say never. Down the road, we’re in a good position that we could add her songs and integrate her into some of the music we’ve been working on for four years. So that’s the state of Fleetwood Mac Nation.”
More than likely this is what is going to happen. Mick is goad(t)ing Stevie by saying these things in the press and announcing the four of them will finish up recording a new album. I don't think either FM or Stevie really wants to release a record without all five on it. |

a) if she had any intentions of recording songs with/for Fleetwood Mac next year, why doesn't she just tell them? b) 3 Stevie Nicks songs would just be a waste of time anyway. Christine has already contributed 7 and Lindsey had already done a load with Mick and John. If Stevie was only going to contribute 3 then that would be pretty pathetic. Clearly she might as well not bother. Bring on the 15th (?) incarnation of Fleetwood Mac |

Really? It read to me like they're ready, willing, and expecting to release it without Stevie. They're finishing up what they've been working on over the past few years, which will take a while. Because they have more work to do, there's still time for Stevie to send them some songs, hence they're not ruling her participation out, but I don't think they're expecting anything from her. It sounds to me like they're resigned to the fact she won't be participating on the album, but are also resolved to release new music before the next tour anyway.

I think what may have started this whole mess is the band starting work without Stevie. She didn't like it when they did it in 1987, and she doesn't like it now. At least back then they had an excuse: She was in rehab. This time? I bet she felt left out/pissed when she heard that Christine and Lindsey were hanging out, making music without her. The idea that she's "not a musician" and doesn't need to be involved at the outset of an album recording is an old, old sore spot for her. At this point, I wish they'd had the foresight to get together to say, "OK, we're all five back now. How can we collectively make a record in a way that works for everyone?"
In the meantime, I fear Mick making statements like this to the press is only making the situation worse.

then again in 2010-2011. then again in 2012. then again in 2014. they asked. every time she said no. they tried several different ways. she said no. i think the only time they started working without her was 2012. all other times they asked and wanted to start together with her. looks pretty obvious that every single time she said no. so them finally getting her message seems pretty sensible, no?

I honestly don't care what Stevie thinks of Mick's comments. I could take or leave her at this point and would without reservation want a new album over waiting for her involvement. |
