"Italian Summer" is my favorite from that album as well, with "Wide Sargasso Sea" coming in second.

I honestly have never been impressed with "Annabel Lee" but that's not Dave's fault. The song was unimpressive from the outset. He's not my top choice for a producer but I can't complain about the output level he seems to enable.

I think Dave and Glen worked wonders with Secret Love...I don't think that the song was on anyone's short list of demos that they wanted Stevie to officially record So it does make me optimistic for some of the demos that a lot of us think are better songs..

Totally agree! I used to downright LOATHE the demo of "Secret Love". Still do, actually. But when I heard the "new" version, complete with a great vocal by Miss Nicks, I really enjoyed it! I'm glad Dave and company turned such a boring song into a gem.

Maybe he could do something wonderful to "Lilly Girl" then? Hahaha! Or is that one hopeless?

I'd rather he "fix" Dial the Number over Lily Girl tbh
keep it sad and moody but with less sax

"Secret Love" is the only song I still consistently listen to from IYD. I think it might even be in my top 10 favorite Stevie songs.

ha! Dave Stewart's biggest (i guess only, really) hit song ever without Annie Lennox was Lily Was Here prominently featuring Candy Dulfer on sax. full circle people, right there!!

I will DESTROY him
he prob feels connected to the song and demanded she include it for that reason
I'd still like a new version of this.

The dreaded Kenny G related demos had horns on them.

NICE! I love me some trumpet on a good rock song, or even a string and horn ballad. R.E.M.'s "Finest Worksong" with trumpets on "Eponymous" was pretty awesome. Rufus Wainwright's trumpets on "The Consort" and "Slideshow" made those ballads amazing and goosebumpy (yes, I'm making up words now).

Can anyone else think of any Stevie song that have had some nice horns (meaning trumpets and French horns ~ NOT saxophone)?

Sorry to be negative, but I hate horns in rock music. I'm not a fan of Whole Lotta Trouble. But who knows, maybe Stevie'll surprise me.

I generally agree with you- stuff like Chicago's music doesn't really do much for me. However, there are some instances where horns in pop/rock music can be pulled off. There's a song called Control on Broken Bells new album After The Disco which has a brass solo at the end, and it works. It still kind of surprises me Stevie didn't incorporate any horns into New Orleans since that city is known for Jazz, but I guess she decided not to go that literal.
