Thumbs up Lindsey at Westbury!

Lindsey played another blinder last night, same basic setlist that he's been playing on this leg...
What made this show unique was that during GYOW he was doing the share the guitar thing as well as strolling into the audience - left side, right side, center - when his guitar suddenly cut out! The band kept playing as Lindsey's guitar tech was going crazy trying all different wires and plugs to no avail... GYOW ended with Lindsey's frustration finally catching up with him as he started SMASHING the guitar Pete Townshend style!
The problem was finally sorted out with another guitar but not until LB's roadie came out and started handing out pieces of Lindsey's guitar! I was in the tenth row and didn't get one but it WAS VERY COOL!

Second show I've seen this tour (first was Town Hall NYC) and last night was just as good..

Does this man ever have an 'off' night???

Gene

Seriously though,

That kinda stuff isnt on, Rick and Barry spend Months carefully putting each one of those instruments together. Any normal person has to wait about 15 months to get just one of thse guitars.

im just jealous i wasnt at the show

This song came to my mind immediately (by John Hiatt). But I do understand LB's frustration, being the perfectionist we all know and love:

Well he threw one down form the top of the stairs
Beautiful women were standing everywhere
They all got wet when he smashed that thing
But off in the dark you could hear somebody sing

Chorus:
Oh it breaks my heart to see those stars
Smashing a perfectly good guitar
I dont know who they think they are
Smashing a perfectly good guitar

It started back in 1963
His momma wouldnt buy him
That new red harmony
He settled fgor a sunburt with a crack
But hes stIll trying to break his mommas back

Chorus

He loved that guitar just like a girlfriend
But ever good thing comes to an end
Now he just sits in his room all day
Whistling every note he used to play

There out to be a law with no bail
Smash a guitar and you go to jail
With no chance for early parole
You dont get out tIll you get some soul

Chorus

Late at night the end of the road
He wished he stIll had the old guitar to hold
Hed rock it like a baby in his arms
Never let it come ot any harm

Chorus

For what it's worth...
the guitar killing incident was weird.
I was watching him (and I was close) and he honestly didn't appear to be angry.

He looked a little panicked when the guy who helps him with the guitars was plugging the thing in at the wrong end (the power source? amp?) instead of in the guitar itself. Lindsey found the end of the cord and gestured to him and then he kept going. But, yup, at the end of the song, he murdered the guitar.

And I kept looking at his face and he looked calm.

When he came out again to do the first encore...he looked at the guitar and said to Brett, "How did that happen?" with a big smile on his face and Brett said, "I can't believe you did that."

It was odd. And I hate seeing expensive things ruined so I was a little...weirded out. But, hey, it's his stuff and his money.

The concert itself was fabulous, though. Lindsey was very chatty and seemed to have a lot of fun. I had put myself on this Lindsey-fast for a few months so it was really good hearing that voice again and seeing those baby blues;-)

The faded shirt could use replacing, though;-)

I don't suppose he will be trying that again. Then again, he may well perfect the next audience walk.

I would have liked to have seen that, seriously.

I mean, yeah, blahblah, expensive, we can't get one.. but still.. he smashed it. Bad ass.

I've wanted to smash my guitar a few times. If I had the luxury of being able to afford another one, or the luxury of carrying 15 of 'em with me at any given time, I'd smash the mf-er too. Woo hoooooo!

Mr. Turner doesn't really seem to mind.

I'd love to have seen it. He looks like he's so close the the edge on songs like ISA and the climax of GYOW so maybe it isn't all show if he could fly off the handle like that. Like Rick says, at least he's keeping him in business

I was at this show and I got the impression that Lindsey seemed a little tense about something even prior to the incident. I'm not really sure why I think that is so, but he just seemed a little "off" in comparison to all the other shows I have seen. I thought the guitar-smashing thing was incredible. No kidding. I was just gaping the whole time. The lady next to me, who appeared to be more of a casual Fleetwood Mac fan, was like, "Is that part of his routine?" And I told her not normally, lol! But yeah, it was wild. He just snapped and started banging it on the stage...he was pretty nonchalant about it when he came back.

After the show, that tech guy from the cord incident was asked something about it and he said it's "nothing new" from Lindsey. Interesting...

Even though it was probably my least fave Lindsey show (the fact that my camera with all my gorgeous pics on it was stolen factors in here I guess), it rocked big time. Lindsey is always on fire.

BTFLCHLD, The stage was low, maybe a foot and a half high.. Great venue btw, view was great, acoustics good and security at a minimum.. Wish I had taped...
