What is your 5 favorite Peter Green songs?

Just thought we needed some more action here...and some positive! So what ARE your 5 favorite Greeny songs?

I would nominate:

Green Manalishi

Incredible piece of music but quite scary.

Albatross

Many a woman's favorite love music...all 3 minutes! According to Splinter Group stage rap, so it must be true.

Must think about the rest...not an easy task!

I don't know about positive but if I hear one more thing about a twirling gypsy witch and her "super fantastic" new album, I might scream. So I came to the PG forum for some sanity!

Well I would say:

Man of the World
Green Manalishi
A Fool No More
Oh Well
Long Grey Mare

I've also partial to Slabo Day and Proud Pinto (even though on my iTunes I just noticed that Slabo Day is listed as being composed by Kuma Harada). I'm too lazy to go and get my copy of the CD out of the drawer but I'm fairly sure that is wrong?????

EDIT: - funny how so many people love Albatross though, one of the few PG songs I really CAN'T listen to... (used to like it when I first started listening to FM - they even used to play in on the radio back then, but now I skip it every time).

Welcome...this zone should be Nicks-free.

Slabo was written by the whole band; i.e. they jammed it.

Hm..yeah I'll remove Albatross, kind of tired of it, but love Greeny's new versions.

And add:

Man of the world
The Apostle
Closing my eyes
Rattlesnake shake

chiliD 05-04-2011 11:25 AM

There's no way in hell I could limit it to 5.

From the Bluesbreakers era:

The Supernatural
The Stumble
Greeny
Curly
You Don't Love Me
The Same Way
Someday (After A While)

From the Fleetwood Mac era:

Oh Well
Albatross
Green Manalishi
I Loved Another Woman
Watch Out
Man Of The World
Homework
Black Magic Woman
Underway
Rattlesnake Shake
Searching (and Fighting) for Madge
Love That Burns
Need Your Love So Bad
Stop Messin' Round

(and the list could go on & on)

From the PVK days:

Apostle (the 45 version)
In The Skies
Tribal Dance
Little Dreamer
One Woman Love
Crying Won't Get You Back
Just For You
What Am I Doin' Here
Last Train To San Antone
Walking The Road
Time For Me To Go

From the Splinter Group days:

Real World
Big Change Is Gonna Come
Hey Mama Keep Your Big Mouth Shut
Burglar
Temptation
Until The Well Runs Dry
Time Keeps Slipping Away
Take Out Some Insurance
Help Me Through The Day
Dangerous Man
Spiritual Thief
Tribal Dance
(probably like this version even moreso than the In The Skies version)

No "Out Of Reach", chiliD? My favorite of Peter's Bluesbreakers tracks.

Was just going off the top of my head...had I had albums & CDs to refer to, it would've been in there.

The title of your thread should surely be:

What ARE your five favourite Peter Green songs!

Yes, the thread was first titled "1 favorite song" and I forgot to change the numerus.
But hey, I'm not a native speaker and the native speakers here often use sloppy grammar. Let's see your selection.

dansven 05-06-2011 01:01 PM

5 songs?? Impossible! And they change constantly.

Alright, these are TODAY's picks (in no particular order):

The Green Manalishi (With The Two Pronged Crown)

Little Dreamer

Closing My Eyes

Beasts of Burden

Oh Well Part 2

CreepingDeath 05-06-2011 01:38 PM

Black Magic Woman
Oh Well pt.2
Green Manalishi
Man of the World
Albatross

Yeah sorry Dino - I'm a congenital pedant !

Like several others ,my top five is constantly changing But much as I love his playing I have to limit it to his compositions rather than self penned blues that showcase his playing ' so :

1)Green Manalishi -fabulously intricate ,with each new guitar or guitar /bass link being a little more complex than the last almost like a classical piece of music but all within only a few minutes (difficult to play)
2)Man of the World -one of the worlds greatest blues songs that is not at all in a blues structure
3)Albatross- beautiffully simple the antithesis of Manalishi
4)Before the Beginning
5)Black Magic Woman- Even without the remarkable guitar playing a classic simple song
5a)Oh Well pt 1 (sorry! 5 is not enough! )

I have to be honest and confess that I'm not that well aquanted with his post Fleetwood Mac songs
Also thanks Dino for putting up a constructive poll unlike the other recent ones !How can a total of 8 votes be a representative sample ?

sjpdg 05-09-2011 03:25 AM

Here's my 5 in no particular order.

Albatross

Oh Well

I Love Another Woman

Stop Messin' Round

Rattlesnake Shake

Wouter Vuijk 05-11-2011 03:47 AM

Wouldn't it be easier to say "I love ALL PG recordings", but perhaps I should exclude 5 as being the less best. Ehm, guess I can't come up with 5.

BTW In Chili's list there's not too many Blues Jam at Chess material (I miss Last Night, Sugar Mama, South Indiana, Ooh Baby), Oh Well, the list is endless. Miss the "to come in the future" tracks ;).

Yep, this has turned into 5 favorite recordings, which is not the same thing. But hey, it's only natural with Greeny being a great performer of others' material.

dsp1979 05-13-2011 01:37 AM

here's mine

stop messin around
oh well
i loved another woman
man of the world

Well, yeah, I was trying to make the total evenly divisible by 5...does that count?

Like I said, I just went off the top of my head...the two Chess tunes that always stick out in my mind are "Watch Out" & "Homework". Again, had I been at home with the albums in front of me, the list would be at LEAST double...and would've irritated a few MORE people at the length of my "5 favorite Peter Green songs".

Bumping this as I am new to the forum...
I introduced myself in this post: http://ledge.fleetwoodmac.net/showthread.php?t=52668

As great as his blues playing is, there´s no way I could NOT choose his mayor compositions/achievements
- for me these are from the late Fleetwood Mac period:

Man Of The World
Before The Beginning
Closing My Eyes
Oh Well (complete!)
The Green Manalishi

Played in that (chronological) order they almost leave me breathless!

zoork_1 09-24-2013 05:37 PM

Love That Burns

Closing My Eyes

Oh Well (acoustic part)

If You Be My Baby

Fleetwood Mac

Rubber Duck 09-26-2013 02:42 AM

For the earlier, more traditonal blues tracks:

Out Of Reach
A Fool No More
Black Magic Woman
Love That Burns
Trying So Hard To Forget

Probably different next week...or even later today!

Street_Dreamer 09-26-2013 01:23 PM

Before The Beginning
Oh Well
Man Of The World
Need Your Love So Bad
Closing My Eyes

Rubber Duck 09-27-2013 03:41 AM

Post-Fleetwood Mac:

Heavy Heart
Beasts Of Burden
Apostle (album version)
A Fool No More
Little Dreamer

Beasts Of Burden is something of a hidden classic!
Dark and heavy - something that seems to be missing from all his later recordings...
It really needs to released on CD in pristine quality! (as do the other tracks from his two solo singles 1971-72)
Why weren´t they on the 4-CD Anthology...?

holidayroad 09-27-2013 08:00 AM

Closing My Eyes
Love That Burns
Man of the World
Black Magic Woman
Oh Well

Wouter Vuijk 09-27-2013 07:01 PM

It's funny how most of the respondents choose Oh Well part 2 over part 1 (including me). Whereas the mainstream (including the media) only go for the electric part (1).
As for me, I'm constantly struck by the emotional touch of part 2. Guess that counts for most true Greeny fans.
