Neil talks of Christine and another lost FM album

Mick Fleetwood had hoped to record an album with this line-up. “Mick is the flagbearer. He has huge dreams and aspirations for the whole thing all the time. He would have loved us to move it forward, but the stratospheric success of Fleetwood Mac possibly feels like a weight. It’s like moving a mountain.”

Finn did record a song with Stevie Nicks, Christine McVie and Mike Campbell, the gorgeous Find My Way Back Home, released in 2020 to support a New Zealand homelessness charity. It may have been McVie’s last recording before she died in 2022. “That was the last time I saw her. She was performing at a Peter Green tribute that Mick put on. I bought my little set-up and she recorded her parts backstage. Bless her. Christine was just the most beautiful, soulful part of that band, she walked into soundcheck every day with no airs. I’m very sad that she’s not here anymore.”

Given how the band ended up, it's sad that this was the only studio track that could have ended up as an FM song. It's not bad at all. Weird that Mick and John weren't apparently involved- it wouldn't have taken that much effort. Christine's prescence on the track seems very subtle, ghostly even. More Finn/McVie collaborations could have been interesting.

A charity song that’s Neil Finn and friends is one thing, Fleetwood Mac is another. Once it hinted of being Fleetwood Mac, the managers, attorneys, etc. would have gotten involved and a simple song for charity would have become overly complicated.

Really amazing that Neil is sharing everything. Mick wanted to do an album (which I knew) and I'm sure Christine and John would have liked to if Mick did. Neil and Mike are on record saying either they wanted to make an album or thought they were going to make an album as the new lineup of Fleetwood Mac. Therefore, Stevie didn't want to make an album.

For Neil's charity 2020 song, Karen emailed Stevie's vocals to Neil during lockdown, Christine did her singing at the Palladium, and I guess Mike did his contributions during lockdown.

Probably he meant what we read before that Stevie wanted them to play like Lindsey, but if there was more than that, it would be absurd specially from Stevie (though predictable).

“Mick Fleetwood had hoped to record an album with this line-up.” If SYW and BTM weren't successful enough, in 2018-19 another Fleetwood Mac album with a different lineup would be a failure. But artistically it would probably have been better than BTM. Who knows.

I’m listening it right now in YT and I think I haven’t heard it before. Probably my weak short-term memory or my disinterest in that lineup. But it’s a nice song anyway.
