![]() Peter Green & Friends at Moles Club Bath - 2nd September
This is my first post but just had to put mouse to mouse-mat and describe the fantastic evening at Moles. We queued outside in the miserable rain and didn't know what to expect as this is also the first time at Moles - we were let in a few at a time got our hands stamped, turned right walked three paces and there we were bumping almost straight into the stage! Moles club as the name suggests is underground and very atmospheric. Having bumped into the stage (well an area about one foot off the ground), it dawned on us we were going to be at the front almost sharing the event with the man and his friends as if he was playing in our living room. It didn't take long for the club to fill up and the buzz started to build - just after nine the band came on to a thunderous reception - Mike Dodd introduces the new sax player, this was his first night with the band, (sorry didn't catch his name as the cheering was too loud) - for those that might think a Sax may not fit in, IMHO, he was superb, especially for me on Long Grey Mare. Peter Green was now seated within touching distance and looks great, he was smiling and happy whilst we watched him tune-up and then we were off with "Blues Don't Change" Being almost part of the stage we were able to take a photo of the hand-written Moles set list positioned on the floor, (attached), as well as some other photos. During the introduction, Mike Dodd said Peter had a new guitar, (again we were able to get a great close-up photo), Everybody there was thoroughly engaged singing, dancing and clapping to all the songs apart from an almost reverential silence during Albatross. As already mentioned, we had a birds-eye view and therefore could easily hear all of the friendly banter between Peter, Mike Dodd and the rest of the band. There was a great moment when Mike Dodd said to the audience that unlike himself, Peter never seemed to sweat, and was a "cool cat" to which Peter joked "I do in Winter" with laughs all round. During BMW, Peter even did a little dance which prompted Mike Dodd to comment to the crowd "we don't see that very often" Although Mike Dodd was the "front man" - Peter was definitely in control throughout, orchestrating events with a nod and a point here and there to the various musicians. Here is the set list from the photo attached: Blues Don't Change Keys to Highway Long Grey Mare Sweet Marie Lights Go Out Sitting in Rain Oh Pretty Woman Guess I'm a Fool Can't Stop Lovin' Don't Let Nobody Off The Hook Dark End Oh Well / Albatross Stranger Blues Thrill Is Gone BMW / Stumble (Encore) Couldn't really fault any of the performances and Peter himself played with consummate ease and was thoroughly enjoying himself from start to finish. If you do get a chance to see the band in this sort of intimate venue, I would say cancel all prior engagements and get the credit card out quick as they seem to sell out quickly. We have some great videos to share but we are concerned about copyright issues - is it OK to post these? Last edited by TQ0011; 09-10-2009 at 11:32 AM.. |
