Default Future Games(the song) or Hypnotized?

Damn I'm having so much fun with these polls lately! It gets everybody discussing these wonderful songs again. Just really, really fun for me. In my opinion, these are Bob's 2 best songs with Fleetwood Mac, absolutely as good as it gets for Fleetwood Mac in that 4 year period from 1971-1974. BTW 1971 was a VERY good year. That's when I was born! Anyhoo, I know it's going to be hard for alot of people to choose between these 2. I'll have fun reading the discussion. BEGIN! Oh one more thing, I wonder what the version Dave Walker was going to record before he left the band would've sounded like? I know Mick mentioned in his book something about a 4/4 screamer? I hope thats right. Anyway, that technical part of the music is like a foriegn language to me. I just know it's a damn good song and I listen to it all the time!

I don't think there's a more recognizable drumbeat in rock music...except maybe for the intro to The Ventures' "Walk Don't Run"...than Mick's in "Hypnotized".

Just fits the song...it's hypnotic.

This is the most difficult poll you've conducted since both songs are the best songs on their respective records.

I chose Hypnotized, largely because of Christine's amazing backing vocals, but in truth it depends on my mood. I have listened to the original recording of Future Games so many times and can't believe something this rich and satisfying went unnoticed by the masses. It is, in every way, an amazing musical experience.

wow... you make things impossible....

I love both.... they are vastly different pieces of music....

Welch really challenged his english bandmates with his songwriting.... not sure they may have appreciated how good they were instrumentally on some of his stuff...

Hypnotized

But MacDougall votes for Future Games.

But Welch's best song with Fleetwood Mac was Angel. It's perfect for undulating like a hippie cobra flower child, out on the hillside grass under a Summer of Love sun. I do that a lot.

I'm just trying to give these songs some new light. Discussing them keeps them alive and might even help introduce them to people who havent heard them. I guess I look at it as doing my part to help keep the music going you know?

the thing about Angel that is so damn perfect is it's a fade in!!

Difficult choice. I'm voting for a song I love love love against another song I love love love.

But I have to go with "Hypnotized" for reasons mentioned above, the drumming, the instrumentation, the backup singing, the general "feel" created by the song. It is so atmospheric it's just incredible. All of this is true for "Future Games" too, but I'm giving "Hypnotized" the edge because I think the vocals are done better. "Future Games"'s vocals are a wee too layered for my taste.

Bob was certainly the master of the atmospheric song when he was with the Mac.

Oh, yeah. Of course. No one here would disagree with you on this.

Can't argue with THAT! Bob indirectly taught me how to play Major 7ths (on guitar) on that one.

But, "Hypnotized" is more fun to play...for no other reason than to mess with the drummer for not playing that 12/8 part correctly.

Hypnotised is in the top 5 Fleetwood Mac songs of all time in any line up, but it really is absolute perfection in its studio form and no live performance can touch the hypnotic dreamlike feel that we hear on Mystery To Me even when Bob was in the band and Definitely not the Rumours era feeble attempt at the song. Hypnotised and Dreams are really Fleetwood Mac songs that are perfection in the studio and can't be bettered or even matched live. Future Games on the other hand is awseome in the studio and even better live.

But after that long winded post, I have to go with Hypnotised in the end.

Like a few other excellent early FM songs -- Station Man, Sands of Time.

Both songs are great, but I have to go with Hypnotized because, well, that's what it does to me when I listen to it.
