Bluegrass Elvises Vol 1
I know that this is about a year late, but I couldn't find anywhere that this was discussed before so I thought I'd discuss it now.
Just wondering if anyone else has listened to Billy Burnette and Shawn Camp's album Bluegrass Elvises Vol 1, and what they thought. Personally I'm still not sure after a few listens. My parents (who are in their sixties) thought it was great, but then my Mum love Elvis and my Dad loves bluegrass, so it was an album made for them. I don't mind a bit of bluegrass, but I haven't quite worked out whether or not I can handle Elvis done by Billy Burnette to bluegrass music. Just too many variables in that one! So opinions anyone? |

I love all the songs that Billy provided lead vocals for but none of the Shawn Camp ones. It might be my personal bias in favor of Billy but whatever.

Personally I just think Shawn Camp might be better suited to this kind of stuff than Billy is. I know that shouldn't be, given Billy's rockabilly roots - maybe it is because I'd never heard of Shawn Camp until this album, and hence he's a new undiscovered quantity for me? |

I like the album just fine... though I kinda think the wittiest track is track 1.
I don't really listen to it very often. . . interesting/admirable as a strings/guitar/pickin exercise and a work of musical anthropology. "Burnin' Love" is my favorite track.

I think you may have actually summed this album up quite well...

I'd be happy if Billy Burnette went into a country / pop direction again with his next album of original songs. I think this would be a welcome variation from his recent records in the bluegrass genre and his native rockabilly.

Coming Home is still my favourite Billy album though... |

I really liked it, but I would've liked to have seen a couple more tracks with more of a rockabilly edge!
Personally, I'm hoping Billy's next album is more along the lines of ARE YOU WITH ME BABY, one of the most underrated albums of this decade! |
