I like Mirage, except "Empire State" which I think is awful. "Hold Me" is my favorite. I love Christine's piano throughout the song & the vocal blend of Chris & Lindsey together sounds terrific. I even like that "Hold Me" outtake with just Chris, Mick & John just about as much as the album version.

Gypsy, because of the great production, the vocals we get from Stevie, and of course, that guitar solo.

I really like Mirage. Mirage was the first Fleetwood Mac album I owned/heard!
My favourite song would _probably_ be Eyes Of The World. Because I'm utterly useless at explaining _why_ I like something, I'm just going to say it's because of the "bum-bum-bum-bum bum-bum-bum-bum..." bits!! I love Wish You Were Here as well, it's so sweet. Mirage is totally meant to be played as a vinyl, I think. I found it in this house I was staying in with one of the choirs I'm in, and listened to it on a record player (I own a Mirage record, but not a record player!) and it was gorgeous.

Hands down, Gypsy.
What can I say? They were right when they said this was their best collaboration ever. The lyrics, Stevie's voice, the imagery (enhanced by that fabulous video), Lindsey's guitar work...it all blends together wonderfully. Last edited by danax6; 04-30-2006 at 11:01 AM.. |

"Oh Diane" has become my favorite in the past year. I think it's an overlooked masterpiece, one of his best studio pieces with Fleetwood Mac. The lyrics are incredibly simplistic, but the way he describes "Diane's" love for him dissipating is genius for some strange reason. "Love is like a grain of sand/ Slowly slipping through your hand/ Oh oh whoa/ Oh oh Diane." It's very slight by very sly; buoyant music, but intensely pleasurable because of it in lieu of being obnoxious, which it easily could have become. His vocal is almost facile and seems to just smoothly and sweetly flow out of his mouth, which is notable itself after all of the screeching & screaming & yelping fits he committed to record on Tusk. The song itself seems absurdly out of place alongside cryptically inane stuff like "Straight Back" and downright annoying tracks like "Hold Me," but it still stands out as one of the best tracks; perhaps because it's so oddly placed amongst the other stuff, which is also probably why most people dislike it so much. It's a bit jarring on the album and would have fit better on Law and Order where he explored that retro sound to a fuller extent, but it's still one of the Mac's most enjoyable songs.

That is, after you finish that little favor. "Oh Diane" is the one Lindsey song that I HATE. |

I'm torn between Gypsy and Straight Back. I think Stevie's vocals on both are superb and the whole atmosphere the band creates is intense and gorgeous. I guess I'll say Gypsy with Straight Back nipping at its heels.

Gypsy, because I just feel such a closeness with that song. I've always loved to travel and see new places, so I guess I'm sort of a gypsy myself.

As a whole, I really dislike this album. It's much too safe, too Rumours-like and a huge disappointment as a follow-up to the genius that was Tusk.
That being said, I'm going to make a choice that may shock some people and say "Wish You Were Here" is my favorite. Even though it's probably the "safest" track on the whole album. Edit: I'm sticking with my first choice, but I have to give the runner-up position to "Can't Go Back." I'm listening to the album now (first time in at least a couple of years) and realized that I had forgotten how much I enjoy this one. Last edited by Miss Vicky; 04-30-2006 at 03:18 PM.. |
