David, you're so weird.

I'd like to sound like...

Neko Case
Sam Phillips
Patti Scialfa
Nancy Sinatra
Fiona Apple
Aimee Mann
Wanda Jackson
Rickie Lee Jones
Joanna Newsom
Hope Sandoval

I always thought she looked like she wanted to prevent a laxative from taking effect until she left the stage.

I've yet to hear a song where any emotion comes through. She sounds so technically perfect and sterile all the time that it's almost inhuman.

As far as I know, Amazon.com has a free MP3 download of "Doncha Go Way Mad," her duet with Elvis Costello. HOWEVER - while it is a fantastic song, it is so not representative of her and the Jazz Passengers. Their albums are the kind where you have to hear a little before buying because it's a very acquired taste. Most of it is very experimental and off-the-wall. I've seen her with them live and that is an experience. They're almost 100% improvisational live, coming up with lyrics and songs off the top of their heads.

Here's a link to the free song and some minute-long clips (and it's their best album, too):

LOL - a little like La Nicks and the current ending GDW back to the audience squat - I will NEVER for get the forst Dallas concert when upon viewing that pose, the very drunk, large sensible gal simultaneously elbows me and her girlfriend and shrieks in a think Texan accent "she looks like she is taking a *&^^&&"

As for Celine - I truly think her voice is so musically perfect, she cannot inflect and/or infuse with emotion. I still like some of her stuff though

David Bowie can't sing.. Listen to him, he is talking over music. Actually, I think that's been on of his "hooks" in his career..
I think he is a great songwriter and all, but as a singer...no way!

Well, people I admire for their vocal abilities:

Peter Gabriel
Darren Hayes
Chris Lowe (from Pet Shop Boys)
Stevie Nicks
Billy Joel
Tracy Chapman (just...special, that's all)
George Michael
Sting
Elton John

Hmm, that's all I can think of right now..

Life On Mars?
Sunday?
Slow Burn?
Five Years?
Ziggy Stardust?
China Girl?
Heroes?
Hallo Spaceboy?
Bring Me the Disco King?
Heathen (The Rays)?
The Man Who Sold the World?
The Loneliest Guy?
Cactus?
Lady Stardust?

Surely you jest, my friend! He can sing with the best of them and the emotion in his voice is breathtaking. Grab his new concert DVD, he's f*cking brilliant in that thing. It's worth it for his take of Life On Mars alone.

Default well we've wandered away from Rock artists a bit, but:

I think the woman whose voice is the BEST the CLEAREST the most BELL-LIKE is: Connie Dover, of Steeleye Span fame.
I also enjoy Loreena McKennitt and Sara McLachlan, and Enya and Maire Brennan (Clannad)
Im surprised no one has mentioned Barbra Striesand? What Gives?

The question was, whose voice would YOU like to have, not critique the other person's choices.
