Um you said the pound was worth $2 American dollars. If you are paying more at your pump but you are adjusting it to American DOLLAR rates, apparently you arent considering that European monetary value is TWICE as HIGH as American.

personally, I think Europeans forget that crucial aspect of info. you cant compare prices unless you compare wages. and when you compare wages you need to compare monetary values.

us 'old' Ledgies are used to these kinds of threads by now, right? I can remember threads where people here in the US whined about $2 a gallon gasoline, But they forgot our Ledge friends of the other side of the pond and their higher gasoline prices

Nothing new here on the Ledge

I'm not going to waste my time explaining elementary mathematics to you if you can't see understand something this simple. And it amuses me that you say "Um" at the beginning of every post like it's the rest of us that are remedial. Comparing wages is exactly what I've been doing here.. and you seem to already know what we earn over here...

I'll give this one shot.

we pay about 95p per litre. We don't use gallons, so you'll have to convert. I already converted btw, so I know what it is.

you didn't specify.

are you saying you don't think it's relevant that the US has a higher household income? if we have a higher household income, and we pay less at the pump, then your argument is wrong.

Im not at all sure we have a higher household income. I know our money is worth half as much as Britain's. I have yet to figure out what this means in terms of real costs at the pump.

Breton: 95p: is that Pence or Pounds?

btw: this doesnt have to be a boxing match, I think we can ALL agree that we are getting gouged by the oil companies, whether we live on one side of the pond or another...

the graphic, although crude, illustrates that your claim that in the UK they make twice as much as we do is incorrect. their pound is worth two of our dollars, but that doesn't mean they make twice as much as we do.

I was just agreeing with what BB was saying. I think this whole thing is getting out of control, because I think you have an idea in your head of how things work, and you're not listening to what actual inhabitants of the UK are saying. You posted the articles above yourself, and nowhere does it say that Europe and the US are on an even keel with paying for gas. Sure it may make sense to you, but it's not necessarily how it works.
