That reminds me of a good story where i accidentally made my sickly friend break her arm. We were on the parallel bars at school, see. I didn't really understand that not everyone was as good at athletic things as i was. So i was like, c'mon, do a cherry drop, they're easy and fun!!! Look!!!! See!!! Nothing to it!!!! C'mon, you'll love it!!! then - *flail* snap! the arm was broken. She got the last laugh, she got to play Helen Keller in community theatre play, and she got a better part in the class play. And of course everyone paid attention to her cause she had a cast and had to write with her left hand. Even though I didn't do anything on purpose, I still feel Karma exacted it's retribution!

Wasn't that the premise of A Separate Peace, where the one friend hurts the other?
Tell me, does friendship with you come with insurance?

Take it easy, NairButt.

But for you, was dodgeball played in a circle like I described, or on different sides of a line, as seems to be the current way?

And BTW, I'm sure your friend forgave you for hitting her in the face.

We can laugh, but that's really not a bad idea. Perhaps you'd like to come "rockhopping" with me at the river? It's not dangerous! It's easy! Look! You just balance when you land! no, you won't break your ankle or fall in!!!!
C'mon!!!!
Amber
P.S. Dodgeball in a line? WTF? Couldn't you just easily bean the person standing straight across from you?

No, that's not what I mea. What we called bombardment was like what people today call dodgeball (if you get rid of the pins part). The teams are separated by a line. As I said, what we called dodgeball was played in a circle - NO escape.

Yeah, ok, we had the same things, called the same things. Dodgeball=circle
Bombardment=line. BTW, after I wrote that thing about insurance and rockhopping, I checked my email, and look what my mom just wrote to me:

"I'm glad you take care to be safe in/around the water. When you were jumping rocks you practically gave me a heart attack at rock creek, and both me and your dad were very nervous when we took you to the "foresthill" swimming hole. . "
How apropos!! hehehehehe

We played dodgeball just like you described, in a circle. That was fun, taking out the people you didn't like!

We also did a LOT of skating in the late '70s/early '80s. I'd go every single Friday night in junior high to the Star Skating Center in Harrisburg. Every time I hear Blondie's "Call Me" and certain other disco songs that's what I think of. One thing I could never do was "shoot the duck," though.....

Arrow Okee...

Dodgeball was played with one team on one side of the gym, the other, on the other side. No circles or anything like that.

We played a lot of Cops and Robbers, and we used to build a lot of forts in the woods. More than that, we played with a lot of Star Trek toys. Yeah, we were geeks I did play T-Ball for two years. Ahh, fond memories of the 94/95' undefeated T-Ball Yankees...

I am an only child, so I entertained myself most of the time. I rode my bike a lot and enjoyed my time in the sandbox. With the neighbor kids, we'd play police, kickball, I don't remember what all else.

At school, I played jump-rope (then Chinese jump-rope) a lot. We'd also make up dances. I can still do the one to "I Think We're Alone Now."

I have a skating flashback when I hear Diana Ross's "Upside-Down".
