I like most of the following artists' earlier work, but do not like the direction their current work is going in.
-Lady Gaga-post The Fame Monster -Miley Cyrus (not because of the VMAs, generally have never liked "her material" -Justin Timberlake -Taylor Swift-something about her attitude puts me off. -Any kind of rap that is mediocre and deals with shallow subjects. -One Direction (Although Little Mix, their female counterparts, are quite good vocally) -Cher Lloyd -Justin Bieber -Heavy Metal/Hardcore -Most Classical music -Christian music (Not the hymns or gospel which tend to be quite nice). Asian Music J-music: -AKB48- just fanservice, fanservice, fanservice. -Everyone in Hello! Project except for Morning Musume K-music: -2ne1 at the moment -anything super cutesy and aeygo |

I liked and respected Michael Jackson's music up to Thriller, liked a lot of other Jacksons music as well, just didn't respect them as people a lot of the time. But Stevie Wonder has always been a great person and creator, I feel we are so lucky to have had him in our world (and Smokey Robinson and James Brown as well).
Hate? Really stereotypical '90s-onward country-pop with the cowboy hat being kind of the only tip off that it's country. The stuff that seems like a computer with a formula cranked it out for a certain lowest-common-denominator demographic. How does that junk actually keep selling? They have their own ghetto stations and tv channels and hit artists you've never heard of before (kind of like the praise and worship 'christian store' ghetto). Those people who get booked for Nascar and football game appearances. Hate hate hate, go away (and take thirty years of female degrading gangsta rap with you please). I hate that 'industry' stuff so much I don't want to remember never mind speak/type any of the names. Rant mode ended. |

^ I forgot to mention that I dislike modern country too.
It all sounds really whiny to me. Personally I dig Johnny Cash's music and I love "Highwayman" from the Highwaymen. Despite what my mother says on how pop-country artists nowadays pour their emotions in their music, I believe that one of Cash's songs contains more emotion then most current country artists' entire discographies. |

Speaking of whiny country music..Rascal Flatts fits into that category perfectly. I cant stand them. I'm so glad that I got involve enjoying country music in the 1970's when Johnny Cash and others were hot on the charts. Today's country has to much LOUD electric guitar which sounds like noise to my ears. If I want to hear Good loud electric guitar. It will be Lindsey or Waddy at a concert in other then that .I dont want to hear anybody else. I went to see Keith Urban couple years ago.I thought I was at a rock concert.I have to say he's great but I rather hear acoustic guitar in the music.

I grew up around all the old country music and even older from when it was country & western so I have loads of emotion tied up with Charley Pride to Roy Rogers. About the only old stuff I dislike is if there are too many George Jones or Tammy Whynette songs in a row (although I like their duets). I`m not sure why I hate the new so-called country as much as I do, something phony about it if that makes sense. I love Alison Krauss and Raul Malo, but not sure if they are even considered `country`now. They were at one time. Somewhere after Dwight Yoakam and Rodney Crowell things went very bland. The guitar is generic `70s arena rock style, by the numbers mostly. They need to listen to some `50s rockabilly like Carl Perkins and Gene Vincent who always had killer twanging, or at least Johnny Cash, Ricky Nelson and Elvis (Luther Perkins, James Burton & Scotty Moore). Or Don Rich in Buck Owens band, that`s what they need to rediscover. Johnny Cash and Willy Nelson never had to wear a cowboy hat to be real country.
I was dragged into a U.S. native run casino one time and they had new country on the PA system... I literally had to leave and read in the car because of that, not from my disinterest in gambling. Last edited by becca; 09-01-2013 at 01:48 PM.. |

I listen to the Grand Ole Opry weekly online or the radio if the signal is good on 650 WSM Nashville.I'm glad that some of the older artist still show up and greet the fans with their classic tunes and still able to sing at their age and still call the Opry home. That was strange that a casino was playing all country music .The only one I can think of playing country music is in Atlantic City which is called Bally's Wild West casino. The others here in Connecticut and Atlantic City play a mix of the currents with some older tunes. Once in the blue moon I would hear a Stevie/FM tune at the casinos. You will like this internet radio station. They play a mix of classic country from the 1950's to a handful of the 1990's tunes.I listen to it all the time. http://www.scottfm.net/listen.html They play tunes of the artists you mentioned plus alot others too.

Hoo. Well this is a "Can of Worms" opener for me, as there are quite a lot of artists I wouldn't grieve for should I wake up in the morning to find their entire back catalogues wiped off of the face of the earth. But as I have neither the time nor the will to list them all, I shall name but a couple.
Alanis Morissette - Good when I was 14. But not only did I play her music to death, but I came to the slow realisation that a lot of her 'Pro-feminist', 21st Century message was pure bull****. You've only to look deeper into her lyrics to realise that she is hypocritical. But maybe I'm being too harsh. Meh. Don't care. The Carpenters - If there is one thing I cannot stand it's sickly sweet, overly honeyed music. If there is any song worse than "Why Do Birds Suddenly Appear" (Or whatever the hell it's called), I don't want to hear it because I fear the toothache may actually kill me. The only reason I don't name The Osmonds is Crazy Horses. Their songs are equally disgusting, but that song at least added a little hair to the proverbial balls of their back catalogue. Genesis - Sad thing is, I may actually like their music if they weren't fronted/lyrically aided by a nasty, whining, simpering little troll by the name of Phil. "Then the LORD God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being who went on to create a poor quality rock album. This made the Lord sad and he went on to create a planet of kittens and forgot all about us." Morrissey - Not only are his songs very VERY depressing (Or as my Dad likes to refer to it, 'Music to slit your wrists too') but he himself as a vile bully. Yes, he has opinions and beliefs he feels strongly about. But there is no need to be so pushy about it. And to cancel entire concerts just because you can smell meat? Way to repay your fan, M! |

And with Genesis, yes, it's right, but not at all. You can't deny that even in the Collins days you have some "rock" songs like Home By The Sea (and the Second), No Son of Mine and Abacab, and maybe one or two more. But in the Gabriel days you had very very long songs, and the voice of Peter changing all the time. Anyway, there's lot of good tracks of this 70s era, maybe their best works. Phil changed everything and, even when I confess that songs like I Can't Dance, Paperlate, Illegal Alien and others are simply rubbish, you really don't know what was called "rock" and what was "pop" in the 80s. Pop was rock and rock was pop. And, I don't believe that the Ray Wilson years were better! Mark. |

I never could understand what Alanis Morissette was singing about unless I 'd hire a translator .Her singing sounded like gibberish to me.

A person'd have to be a fool to argue with 'hairy balls', but Donny Osmond as a little kid croaking out Puppy Love has to be one of the very lowest points of hit pop music.
Roxette (Joyride), Loverboy (Turn Me Loose, The Kid Is Hot Tonight), Jefferson Starship (We Built This City), Pointer Sisters (I'm So Excited, Jump), Van Halen (Jump) and Bon Jovi (Living On A Prayer) have lyrics so generic and bland as to be entirely pointless and even intelligence insulting. |
