Blood on the Floor
‘It's sad but true
Got a date with the hangman I have to leave you
I shot my darlin' three times or more
The reason I'm goin' is blood on the floor’

Black Magic Woman
‘Yes, I got a black magic woman, got me so blind I can't see
But she's a black magic woman and she's tryin' to make a devil out of me’

Sandy Mary
‘Sandy Mary, Sandy Mary - now, baby, you're the one for me
You got just what it takes to make a flesh eater out of me’

Jumping at Shadows
‘God have mercy I think I'm going insane
The Devil's been gettin' at me
He's got me down again’

Revelation
‘He controlled the brimstone, and eternal fire
Surrounds himself with downers, in the king of cold
You know that he had all the princes kissing his diamond ring
And I heard that he walled up, the door to summer
And cut the heart out of mister spring’

Glad you upped!

I’d add a few other Bob Welch songs for their brooding, borderline creepy sound—the long instrumental vamp in “Night Watch”; the menacing verse portions of “Future Games”; the eerie strings, guitar and vocals on “ Keep on Going”; and perhaps most of all, “Coming Home.” Bob knew how to create a mood.

Some of Green’s despair songs on THEN PLAY ON seem brooding and dark, too.
