Does anyone know if this version of Gypsy is from The Dance performance or the Mirage album version? If it's the album version, why the heck was it released as a promo single in '97?

Hmmm we have too many choices here! Maybe they re-released the song as a single, taking advantage of The Dance success, OR is The Dance live version...

You should see the lengh of both versions. The album one is 4:25, and the 1997 one is 4:15. So none of them has the correct lengh. But watching that it was produced by Buckingham-Caillat-Dashut, it probably could be the original version, re-released...again...

I bought a couple of The Dance singles that contained songs not included in The Dance cd album. I still have them and are different from the photo in the link you shared.

But can't remember the exact package but surely were The Dance concert pictures, like the Landslide 1997 single. I just kept the CDs.

It seems it's a german edition. And since it lasts 4:21, apparently it's The Dance version.
