Woman of a 1,000 Years
Can someone explain this song to me in their own interpretation? I love Danny's songs and this one is one of my faves, if not my ULTIMATE fave (which changes alot actually. LOL) and I'm having a hard time figuring it out. I'm sure it's simple, but I've NEVER been good at lyric interps.
I see her as a ghost of a lost love or something...she appears in the sky, floating by, etc. which in my mind, is like a spirit. Also, could she be an angel? Anyone wanna discuss this song? Woman Of A Thousand Years Written by Danny Kirwan Woman of a thousand years How are your sons of a time ago Do they still admire your silvered ways As you go down To the sea and golden sand You may be seen up in the sky And from the land Or floating by, a fisherman's day Flying down from a high She is gone, and then appears From the water's edge Woman of a thousand years He waits to see you... You may be seen up in the sky And from the land Or floating by, a fisherman's day Flying down from a high She is gone, and then appears From the water's edge He waits to see you For it has been long since you left him On his own to wander Woman of a thousand years How are your sons of a time ago Do they still admire your silvered ways As you go down To the sea and golden sand

Perhaps
The woman of 1000 years is the moon. The man waiting to see her is the sun. Never the two shall meet.
Fisherman guide themselves by the moon and perhaps the children are the stars. Kinda like the movie "LadyHawk". It's just an idea and is probably not right at all, but isn't it a little romantic to imagine it so? |

Very romantic
Thanks for posting!! Sounds pretty romantic to me, you could be right. You know, not knowing a ton about Danny's personal life doesn't give us much to go on to read into his lyrics.
Listening to Bare Trees (the song) at the moment!!

The song's about Stevie Nicks in the future.
Danny is asking Stevie, in the future, if Mick, John, and Lindsey think she sucks now that she's a thousand years old. The golden sand represents her past cocaine abuse. If you look at a beach from a mile or so offshore, it kind of looks like cocaine. That was how she got so high up in the sky. When she "flies down from her high" she starts writing gems like When I See You Again. By this point, "she is gone." She stays gone for a long time and actually quits Fleetwood mac. Actually she wasn't gone, it's just that nobody paid attention to her anymore since she got fat. Even though Lindsey beat Stevie's ass and was jealous of her because she was prettier than him, he still waited to see her join the band again sometime so he could peddle his solo material as a Fleetwood mac album. He's been on his own to wander for too long, and he can see his life is getting pretty aimless. It's been so long since she left him. Then she appears from the waters edge (after a much needed diet/detox) and Fleetwood Mac gets back together and makes a smash live album that sells millions. Then a bunch of years go by and now she's a thousand years old and they don't have Christine McVie anymore. So basically it's Danny asking Stevie a question, but then he tells her what's gonna happen anyways. The song is about Danny asking her how she's doing, but then he doesn't give her a chance to answer so he answers it for her by predicting the future. That's it. |

You crack me up, definitely. I do think the song is a nice imagery about the moon. Asking her "how are your sons of time ago?" reminds me of an old legend about how the moon wanted to be a mother and how did she managed to do it, rapting the newborn child of a human girl. So we all could be "sons" of that woman of a 1,000 years. And perhaps "she" is a source of orientation and the way that we have lost in one way or another. Ever seen a dark night, without moon? It's all confusing, right? And so it's us, the whole humanity and at the same time the simple men, who tell the moon "it's been long since you left" us.... Oh God, just speculation. I do not have any idea about what this song is about, but it is my favorite of Danny's. Song of the moment - Hypnotized

What's the world coming to?
I came into the thread late ... and it looks like 'everyone's gone to the moon'!
