Alanis' New Album - Flavors of Entanglement
Has anyone bought/listened to her new album?
It has some pretty heavy duty stuff on there! However, I am struck by how positive some of the songs are. The overall vibe of this album reminds me of Stevie in that this album was written in the depths of despair of Alanis' broken engagement with Ryan Renoylds (like Rumours was with Stevie), but Alanis finds some hopeful thread in each song so that she eventually rises above the heartache and despair. She also uses alot of great analogies in her lyrics that are cool on an intellectual level. http://www.alanis.com/

No, I don't have it, but I've been thinking about getting it. Is it good do you think? I generally like her, but the last one I got of hers was the Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie & I didn't like it too much. It seems that break-ups are always good song material though.

I am really enjoying this album. I believe it is her best work since JLP, for sure!
Tapes and Incomplete are by far my favorites..

I saw her at Irvine Meadows in 1998. I was the guest of Glen Ballard, a producer who was also a friend of Lindsey Buckingham. She put on a very weird show: hectic energy mixed with passionate perversity & dramatized mental imbalance.
Sort of like Christine McVie.

I liked So Called Chaos overall...the one right before Flavors. Alanis is amazing, and I'm highly considering getting this album.

Oh yeah - I think Tapes and Incomplete are excellent songs. I do like Underneath, too. There is a large variety of songs on this album, which is nice.

The album is very good.
Coincidentally, last Friday night I hosted a "release party" for the CD at a club here in Boston. By the end of the night, only a few of the 100 Underneath singles that were scattered around the room had been taken. I had 10 full-length CDs to give away, but only four people were interested. Most of the re-mix singles (featuring 8 different mixes) went pretty quickly. People appeared very indifferent to her, which is too bad. |
