Default Safe Harbour VS Albatross

My friend and I were discussing some early Mac last night and the subject turned to these 2 songs. It is my friends opinion that Safe Harbour is terrible and doesnt deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as Albatross. I won't say that Safe Harbour is my favorite out of the 2 by any means, but I do like it. It's always pleasant to listen to.

chiliD would agree with you. I'd agree with your friend.

How ANYBODY could NOT like "Safe Harbour" is beyond me.

But, in saying that, I don't think it holds a candle to "Albatross" (or "Sunny Side Of Heaven"...or "Underway"...or "Earl Grey", either, for that matter)

Heroes Are Hard To Find. "Safe Harbour" is a Bob Welch song.

"Safe Harbour" is nice, but nowhere near "Albatross" - I'm with ChiliD

Well, not exactly...kind of like comparing "Fuji Apples" with "Granny Smith Apples". Both songs were "Fleetwood Mac" songs, just one was written by Peter Green, the other by Bob Welch.

Albatross is a unique song; its influences come from unexpected places and are born out of Green's love for a wide range of music. Safe Harbor is simply a derivative expression of Green's vision--and not a very good one at that. I'll listen to it if I'm too tired to change push the next button on the remote, but that's all. Welch is capable of so much more! "Coming Home" on the same record is a far more intriguing piece of music.

Ok...I just don't really consider Fleetwood Mac with Peter Green and any of the after incarnations the same band. Whenever I turn people on to the Fleetwood Mac with Peter Green, most people don't want to hear Fleetwood Mac because they are familiar to the Post Peter Mac with the females in the band. However, after these people listened to the blues of the Peter/Mac band the usual response is that they are very different.

Aren't fuji apples sweet...and granny smith apples tart...good analogy

I dont care for Safe Harbor at all. Its probably like the only song on Heroes or of Bob's on any album I dont like. its just a very boring instrumental.

Safe Harbour rocks! The first time I heard it was in February or so of 1980, when Jim Ladd broadcast his Innerview of Stevie Nicks from December 12, 1979. He used Safe Harbour as the sonic backdrop for Stevie's opening remarks. Of course, at that time I didn't know it was a Fleetwood Mac track.

I have the staff notation/sheet music for Safe Harbour, which I can post somewhere if anyone wants it.

Which possibly explains the title, then...
