Question Wounded Bird Martha Velez Fiends & Angels CD remaster

Having just had the chance now to get the Wounded Bird reissue of Martha Velez' "Fiends & Angels":

http://www.amazon.com/Fiends-Angels-...2367673&sr=1-1

...I hope this doesn't mean there won't be a "Complete Blue Horizon sessions" release for MV since, not surprisingly, Wounded Bird don't list who plays what on each songs, just the list of musicians that played on the album. At least Mike Vernon, so far, has done as good a job as possible in documenting who plays what in the liner notes of each of the CBHS sets, so I hope if for no other reason, that does get an issue at some point, and hopefully soon.

Thanks, John. I had no idea this had been released. I'll definitely be ordering it. I have a feeling that it won't be released as part of the Blue Horizons series since it was released on this label. I agree with you about Mike Vernon. His liner notes are the best.

She's listed for keyboards on the album (as well as 2 other keyboard players) but we've yet to find concrete documentation of any description yet as to specifially which songs on the record she's playing on. It SOUNDS to me like she'd be playing the piano parts and the other 2 keys players would be playing the organ parts but that's just my guess. Hopefully we'll find out for sure someday on this though.

If I heard it, maybe I could figure it out.

When was the album recorded? I suppose I could go look it up but it's so much more entertaining to have the knowledgeable people here give the information. Who is Martha Velez, anyway? (I never heard of her before this.)

I have that Martha Velez compilation CD. She is listed in the liner notes as playing the piano. Another guy named Brian Auger is listed as playing organ. There are only 4 tracks from this album on that CD & there is a piano on 2 of those tracks. I have to assume any tracks on this album that have a piano, that's Christine.

The album was released sometime in 1969. I would think the album was recorded soon after she left Chicken Shack.

Martha Velez has pretty much disappeared. I don't like her voice at all. I think most people who buy this CD are probably diehard fans of Clapton, Christine, Jack Bruce, etc. It's pretty amazing to look at the liner notes & see all of the musicians who played on this album.

Brian Auger is an excellent musician...

Mick Weaver is listed as the other organist as "Blue Weaver".

Oh! Now I'm interested. I didn't realize this was a vintage recording; I guess I assumed it was something that was recorded much later. How did Christine come to be involved in this? She was riding a wave of popularity in England at the time. In a way it seems odd that she would work as a session musician for another vocalist, but it seems a lot of famous musicians worked on this album. Whoever Martha was, she must have had some pull in the music biz to get that kind of support. Who produced the record?

I think it was produced by Mike Vernon and that it was recorded around July '68. The rest of Chicken Shack at the time also played on this so I'm guessing it was through the Blue Horizon connection etc. (as to how she got involved in this). That's just my guess though.

That's a good guess. I'd bet that she got involved through Vernon.

That makes sense. I forgot that the rest of Chicken Shack also played on the record. I really wish that this would have been released through the Blue Horizon series, just to get those Mike Vernon liner notes.
