Default Angry Smile at You

Ok....I know this is an elementary question, but when was the "Angry" version of SMAT recorded. She sounds late 70s early 80s, but I'm not sure. Thanks.

I believe there are three or four Tusk demo's and two or so Mirage demo's.

Definitely.

And yes Michelle, the most commonly referred to "Angry Version" is from the Mirage Era.

No problem. I think this was one of those songs she KNEW was a Fleetwood Mac song from the get-go.

but why didn't they put it on Mirage? that's the million-dollar question. the demo, as it is, would have been fine by me. it is SUCH a great song and a great vocal that most will never hear.

I think it was recorded before Mirage. When I was in France in 1981 they played the tape of it all the time like they did with the BD album so I assumed it was a Bella Donna song.

Yeah, I know! As charming as That's Alright is, and though her fans like Straight Back, neither of them work half as well...

I think the real question is, why didn't she use it on Tango?! I always thought Smile at You and Planets would have been great on that record instead of the duds she contributed there.

Default Angry Smile At You

Once I heard all the demos for Smile at You (especially the angry version), I could not believe it never made it on Mirage or Tango. It is Stevie more than almost any other song. It's like the early live Rhiannon's -- raw and electric. Nobody ever sounded like this woman. They blew it leaving off this song on some album. The version on SYW just doesn't do it for me. I also love the MAC version of If you Were My Love with Lindsey singing on the chorus at the end. That one too had great vocals and was supposed to be on Mirage. Stevie is singing that song at the Rolling Stone photo shoot and it's playing in the background. So go figure their Stevie song selection especially on Tango. Yuck!!!. Such a shame. There are so many other great ones like Mirror Mirror that should have made it on an album. What were they/she thinking? Don't tell me it was because of space issues like with what happened with Silver Springs on Rumours.
