Sydney show 22nd of October

Well, there you go, i've waited very patiently for this, with the cancelled show in 2013, to watching everyone post videos and reviews of this tour. It was worth the wait, I don't think i ever really appreciated how balanced they were as a band with Christine back. Everything flows better has a counterbalance it's just perfection.

New songs were amazing.... i felt BTLH fell flat due to it's placement in the set, that section was a real rocking part of the show and i kind put an end to that. but Sara was out of this world, best live in person version i've heard. Think About Me, well you could have knocked me over with a feather, if i hadn't heard that during soundcheck i wouldn't have believe you. :blob2::blob2:

Two more shows to go....

wheart 10-22-2015 07:52 AM

Glad you enjoyed the show! I just find it odd that they decide to change the setlist on the final leg of the tour, with only 16 shows to go. But I am glad they have a little adventure left in them!

nicole21290 10-22-2015 04:54 PM

My videos. Will keep adding to this post as I upload them. My height was a bit of a hindrance to getting great footage even though I was in the fifth row but anyway...

My battery died in World Turning, but I got some very crappy footage with my phone of a couple of songs. Apologies for the shakiness and poor quality.

ViscountViktor 10-22-2015 05:29 PM

Did Stevie literally just falsetto the intro to Sara?

OMG I think I'm seeing things...

cheappd 10-22-2015 05:32 PM

Thanks for posting your videos. That was a really nice version of "Sara." I saw them perform it on the 2013 tour, minus Christine, but I think this version is better. Also enjoyed "Think About Me" with better sound than the previously posted video.

The Internet is a wonderful thing... to be able to watch Fleetwood Mac perform in Sydney here in Minnesota, USA just hours after it happened is fantastic. I had the pleasure of visiting Sydney, Brisbane, and Port Douglas on a vacation 2 years ago and would love to return.

jbrownsjr 10-22-2015 05:50 PM

Thanks for posting!! Love that Lindsey made Stevie give him a kiss! Good shots Nicole.

Palmira 10-22-2015 05:55 PM

Thank you so much for posting those wonderful videos, I went all teary eyed. I can't wait to see them. Counting down the days (what to wear, what to wear?).

What kind of camera did you bring? I've got a little handycam that takes photos, has anyone had trouble bringing these into venues?

Honestly, it's a dream setlist for me.

No problem! I thought I may as well try and get some footage while in a position to do so. Seats for some of my other shows don't have a particularly good vantage point in comparison.

I know NOTHING about cameras and this was my first time using one since I was 11 and had a film camera - disposable and all.... It's just a small (but expensive-ish) digital camera. Had no issues bringing it in. http://www.amazon.com/Sony-DSC-RX100.../dp/B00889ST2G

I'm going to see Fleetwood Mac tomorrow night. I'm not going to watch your videos yet Nicole - I'm sure they are great but I promised myself I wouldn't watch any of the videos until after I've seen them in the flesh.

I am very surprised that they decided to change the set list at this late stage of the world tour. I am a little disappointed that I Know I'm Not Wrong has been dropped because I really love that song, but I'm looking forward to Sara and Think About Me.

I'll be sitting (or standing) on the arena floor, section SG-1, row 27, seats 11-14. Are any Ledgies seated nearby?

nicole21290 10-22-2015 07:01 PM

Also, Lindsey needs a refresher course on The Beatles. He attributed Ringo's 'I've got blisters on my fingers!', which comes at the end of Helter Skelter, to John Lennon.

I volunteer to give said refresher course...

Erin 10-22-2015 07:59 PM

Fantastic videos, Nicole. Thank you for posting! Also, glad to see Chris is still making good use of her whistle.:p

BlueLight 10-22-2015 08:59 PM

Amazing videos, thank you for posting! They are in good form - and Stevie sounds fantastic. One of the best Saras I've heard in recent years. And the vocals on Think About Me sounds really tight - much better than in the first video that was posted. So glad that the band finally made it to Oz!

michelej1 10-22-2015 09:05 PM

ASTONISHED by Think About Me. Devastated that I didn't get to experience it. This is great.

I would have preferred if Lindsey did his part more ferociously. I liked the contrast of her crooning and him demanding, THINK ABOUT ME, every once in a while. I don't particularly like his softer stance on the song.

But if I'd been in the audience, if she said they were doing one from Tusk I would have been jumping up and down from that point on, dying through the seconds it took to have her specify which song it was.

Thanks for that, those little cameras are good. I know what you mean by seating positions, looks like you had pretty good ones here. I tried, but the closest Ill be getting is 12 rows from the front in Geelong but it still should be a surreal experience. Might even get another ticket but behind the stage at Rod Laver, might be an interesting angle? Have seats for one of the arena shows but it's lower level so my child has a view :)

mottabam 10-22-2015 10:00 PM

I'm really shocked yet excited Think About Me appeared in the set list. Hope to experience it Live one day. Amazing. Glad they changed up the set list a bit but I really enjoyed the energy of IKINW on the last outing here in the states.

vivfox 10-22-2015 10:12 PM

I loved Sara and Think About Me. I love the parts in Sara when Lindsey and Stevie sang together. Loved watching Lindsey mouth the song during parts he only played guitar on. Loved Chris' voice in TAM.Haven't watched BTLH yet.
Thank you for the videos, Nicole.

Fleetwood Mac fans cheer, laugh, cry and show love for the band on their Australian tour

IF you could harness all the energy devoted to singing Fleetwood Mac songs in loungerooms, cars and bars over the past 40 years, it would create a mighty bang.

The audience at the opening Australian concert by the legendary band at Sydney’s Allphones Arena brought an energy powered by all those moments, whether a solo karaoke of their favourite song, perhaps Go Your Own Way, or the more universally sung-to-the-rafters Don’t Stop.

Their myth is rooted in the reality of their drug-fuelled romantic entanglements and bust-ups as documented so honestly and historically on the greatest breakup album of all time Rumours.

The Fleetwood Mac on offer in 2015 is one every fan had not dared hope for over the past 16 years; the return of the classic line-up featuring Christine McVie.

This reunion appears to have a restored a natural order, and much-missed songs, to the concert life of Mac and the band’s devoted fanbase.

On this greatest hits tour, resumed after bassist John McVie’s treatment for cancer, the beloved rockers sounded perfect and clearly enjoyed embarking on this concert caper again.

Yet this isn’t a band simply running through a well-structured hits set played with the ease of familiarity and virtuosity.

There was seriously a lot of love in the room, both on and offstage, even when Lindsey Buckingham got a little creepy with his vocals on Never Going Back Again.

And it’s not only the love these five musicians have for each other, which is truly astounding when you consider how they tortured each other back on the 70s and 80s.

Where the love, and the joy and even a few tears, really happens, is in the audience.

Like the three people behind me harmonising so tunefully to the opening track The Chain, the band’s statement of intent to keep it all together for this tour, at least.

Or the enthusiastic air drummers everywhere in the crowd who played along to Tusk.

Or the big Christine fan who almost busted out of his chair space as he danced and sang along to You Make Loving Fun.

Or me who may have got something in both eyes during Sara, a song introduced to the setlist for the Australian concerts.

That’s the thing about a Fleetwood Mac concert which remains truer now than ever in those creatively and personally tense eras.

The Mac are just such a big deal to the fans, and they respect that loyalty by not messing with the memories.

Stevie Nicks twirls is her layers of black and mic stand of scarves and ribbons.

Buckingham is an engaging guitar show-off, that rare musician whose hyper emotional performance somehow remains connected to the song rather than veering too far off into an indulgent display of proficiency.

Christine just delivers that understated and warm depth she always brought to the band.

And then there’s that devilishly handsome and beguiling rhythm section of bassist John and the masterful, commanding drummer Mick Fleetwood.

The world would have been a less magical and mirthful and musical place without Fleetwood making this band all those decades ago.

What remains at the end of a night which included Tusk, Dreams, Rhiannon, Gold Dust Woman, Landslide, Big Love, Go Your Own Way, Everywhere, Little Lies and Songbird are the feeling that the songs you have always loved from one of the world’s greatest bands still sound as good as they do in your memory.

And that rarely happens.

^LOL, Lindsey got a little creepy with his vocals on NGBA. What? That NEVER happens.

Sydney Morning Herald by Bernard Zuel, October 23, 2015

http://www.smh.com.au/entertainment/...23-gkggkb.html

Fleetwood Mac Allphones Arena, October 22
★★★
The executive summary would be accurate but also not ever enough: too long and inconsistent of energy; some good sections and a virtual Classic Hits radio playlist; another "seriously, what the ... ?" moment with a drum solo and Christine McVie. Yes folks, it's worth an exclamation mark, Christine McVie!

The return, after 16 years, of the longest songwriting contributor in the band was always going to be more than just another body to accommodate onstage and a few more songs to add to the setlist. McVie's songs, from You Make Loving Fun - appearing two songs in, between Lindsey Buckingham's The Chain and Stevie Nick's Dreams, in the democratic/pragmatic structure long necessary in this complex band - to the show's closer, Songbird, with her at piano and only Buckingham on guitar accompanying her, are not just standards.

They, and she, are also the temperamental, lyrical and melodic balancing point between the very yin and definitely yang of the band's dominant forces, Nicks and Buckingham. That fractious pair these days make a deliberate, almost ostentatious, point of acknowledging each other, even singing to each other. But the more comfortable and frequent interactions are between Nicks and McVie, and Buckingham and McVie.

As with Nicks and to a lesser extent Buckingham, McVie's voice is not what it used to be and songs never really fly the way they used to. But accommodations are made, both by an audience just happy to have them there and ready to applaud anything, and a band with up to five extra voices filling out those harmonies. (Curiously, while the three backing singers and two extra guitarists/keyboard player/vocalists were acknowledged by Mick Fleetwood in the band introductions, no mention was made of the back-up drummer/percussionist hidden behind the guitar amps.)

Warmth and general happiness – not to mention an odd but entertaining Cajun spin on Tusk and the now standard, and winning, duo version of Landslide - weren't always enough to compensate for many flat periods where tempos dragged and things felt listless. Notably, Sara, Say You Love Me, Think About Me and Gypsy were sat through rather than lived through.

But from Little Lies, a lesser McVie number which nonetheless sparked up the evening as we approached the two-hour mark, the show regained its footing and energy, if not necessarily its quality settings. The less said about Fleetwood's obligatory solo the better, though it might be worth asking if they come back again, could we instead have Nicks, solo at piano, singing Planets Of The Universe. Please?

Fleetwood Mac play Allphones Arena Saturday and Sunday and Hope Estate Winery, November 14-15. Coopers Stadium, Adelaide, October 28; Domain Stadium, Perth, October 30; Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne November 2, 4 and 6; Mt Duneed Estate, Geelong, November 7; Brisbane Entertainment Centre, November 10 and 12

Concert was amazing. I could hear TAM and BTLH being played during the sound check while we waited to go into Mick's meet and greet which was an unexpected but great surprise.

The meet and greet was amazing, I don't know why but I was surprised at how genuinely friendly Mick seemed. He said that the new music will be released in some form or another, with or without a certain member and he also said that he believed the band had one more big tour left in them which he hopes would begin at the end of 2016. I asked him if there was any possibility that they would play Glastonbury to which he replied (after much waffling) 'probably not'.

Security were pretty strict. They would only allow the first row to the stage. I was row 2 and when I went to the stage I was promptly instructed to return or I'll be 'ushered out'. However I absoluteiy refused to sit down so about 4 songs in a security guy came to me and my mate and allowed us to go to the stage! The show was amazing. Christine is quite interactive, I managed to strum Lindsay's guitar and shook hands with Stevie. I think I went a litte crazy and after the concert I had numerous people come up to me to ask if I was the guy in the red t-shirt at the front dancing like a lunatic (!).

Highlights for me were GDW, little lies, Think About Me, ISA, and I had goosebumps for the entirety of Songbird.

Can't wait for Sunday night!

MoonSister75 10-23-2015 03:40 AM

Thanks everyone for the reviews, and Nicole for the videos. I was able to appreciate TAM so much more with your footage. And I completely agree with what others have said about youtube video sound quality being nothing like the sound in the concert. I was pleasantly shocked with how great they sounded when I first saw them live, after watching so many videos with dreadful sound.

I'd love to hear both TAM and BTLH live, but I also happy that IKINW and SOTM were in the set list over here, as I love those too! Great to hear everyone having a good time after a long wait :D

MoonSister75 10-23-2015 03:59 AM

I just watched the Sara video. I didn't realise how much I was missing it in the set list - it's a beautiful, magical song. Can we have it back in the UK on the next tour please

I did notice that there's no hug at the end :(

It's so beautiful, yeah.

See, I find it funny that people are surprised by that. They never hug at the beginning of a tour for Sara. In 2009, she'd put a hand on his shoulder and he'd lean in to her neck or just her arm. In 2013, she'd put a hand on his shoulder and they'd do this slow dance-y half-circle movement. Eventually, on both those tours, it would evolve into a full hug, with him putting both arms around her in 2009 but not 2013. There were a lot of variations.

I'm happy with this as a starting point, lol. Hopefully it'll evolve by the time of my last concert.

In that case, I'm looking forward to seeing how it evolves.

Does Christine sing on Sara? Please tell me she at least does the "ahhhhh Sara" at the end with Lindsey because they used to sing that together on the Tusk and Mirage tours.

Dreamz19 10-23-2015 06:34 AM

I'm a little sad I missed "Sara" in the states. That was the one song I absolutely wanted to hear during the U.S leg.

Dreamz19 10-23-2015 06:40 AM

Thanks Nicole for the videos! I really love TAM live. Even more than I thought I would have. It works better than OMH IMO.

We think alike because that was my first question when I raced to watch the video. I forwarded it to the end but sadly I did not see Chris sing back up on Sara :(
Maybe I missed something because I did not watch the entire video but only forwarded to the part where Chris is supposed to sing. She is an angel live on Sara.

Omg, thanks for all these videos! I've been having a rough week and this just made it all better!! Its been a little over a year since I saw them last so I am going through withdrawal! I sure hope they do at least 1 more tour.

Thank you for the videos, Nicole.

Think About Me kicked some major but! It sounded amazing, better than I thought it would to be honest. It's a terrific song live!

I also enjoyed seeing LB mouth the words to Sara. Just something about seemed very heartfelt. But I also enjoy when Chris mouths the words to Lindsey or Stevie's songs. :o

I get the impression Nicole Barker doesn't like Christine very much. As I'm watching her videos on YouTube, it's like she's trying to avoid focusing on Christine, even on Christine's songs. There were no shots of Christine in Nicole Barker's Sara video or The Chain.

I am beyond bummed they didn't play Sara in America. While I'm grateful I got to see all five of them play in my lifetime and I got to see You Make Loving Fun, Everywhere, and Say You Love Me and Sara in 2013, Sara (and Hold Me) are my two most favorite songs and it would have been very sentimental to see all five of them perform Sara. I would have given up any other Stevie song for Sara. Vent over. I wonder why they went with Think About Me. I also wonder if they really rehearsed Hold Me back before the tour started last year. Bleed to Love Her is meh to me. I would rather have Eyes of The World with Christine back. Mirage is my favorite album. Gypsy is one of their best songs, but that album deserves more love than just Gypsy.

They did it on the last tour, too (the so-called "Live 2013" tour). And agreed, it's a great, fun song, and I'd love to hear Christine sing on it!

Your impression is close enough to correct. While I don't dislike Chris, I've never really been a fan, and my interest lays solely with Stevie and Lindsey. I tried to remember to focus over on Chris but she wasn't exactly near to where I was standing so it wasn't something I did as much as I probably ought to have, sorry. It just wasn't a priority to me. I wasn't trying to AVOID Chris. It's just that my natural instinct is to focus and film only SnL. Any Christine in my videos was because of a concerted effort to film her because I knew others would want me to. Apologies for not having enough of her in my videos, though.

Macfan4life 10-23-2015 04:56 PM

I love the song Think About Me. I think if it would have been the first single from Tusk it would have made the top 10. But it still was a modest hit peaking at #20 pop and higher on rock charts. Tusk sold millions of albums and had 3 radio hits.
I hate to hear Christine say "this was a single that did not do terribly well." I have never heard anything like that at a concert before. Her depression comes through with her putting down her music. Last year she said her 2004 solo album was in the pits of hell.
Chris... stop putting down your music. You had most of the hits with Fleetwood Mac in the top 5, top 10, top 20 and even top 30.
I know how depression works since I suffered many years ago. You do put yourself down in subtle ways.
Think About Me was a hit on an album that sold millions.
Having got that off my chest......
I think Love In Store #22 peak is also a great hit and translates live better. I would love to hear that live again.

Nice to see a familiar name in this thread! Glad you had such a great time, golddustboi. I don't blame you for going crazy - what an intoxicating night. All five members were in fine form. I thought Stevie's voice sounded better than any of the times I had seen her in the past. Perhaps it was because she had been able to have a break from touring. Christine was a delight and having her songs back made for such a much more balanced setlist. Having (mostly!) avoided YouTube videos until I had seen the show for myself, I was so impressed with the use of the video screens and the impact of the visual elements. It was a much more 'current' show, in that sense, than I had been anticipating. Highlights on Thursday were 'Sara' (I missed 'Sisters Of The Moon', but it was worth sacrificing to have 'Sara' back), 'Everywhere', 'Tusk' and 'Gold Dust Woman' for me. I was way back on the floor on Thursday which let me appreciate the scope of the staging, but I'm excited to be down the front tonight. Bring it on!

Nicole .You did a beautiful job capturing the show.I have to check that camera you are using because my videos were ruined with distorted sound with my Nikon.Yes I understand what you mean about focusing "pun intended" on favorite band members.I do it with Stevie. Whats great seeing multiple show is I get a chance to capture video or snap shots everything. As long as the camera batteries last. I'm so upset how the sound came out with my tour videos and be embarrass to show them.
