Intuition
Seriously, how did this not end up on "Behind The Mask"?

Great song... but honestly, to me it almost sounds more a late 1980s thing to me rather than new 90s era-Mac.

In my opinion, it's a lot better than Stand On the Rock!

An Enema is better than Stand On The Rock. I wouldn't insult Intuition by placing it on such an inconsistent, mushy...downright terrible album.

To your second point, I agree BTM is a mess. It strives to do everything, but does none of it well. Having heard some of what DIDN'T make the cut, I wonder what the hell they were thinking. I'd say it could have been a great record, but actually it could have been three great records (or at least better than what we got). But, this was a period of missteps, which actually began when they got back together in 1986. |

Oh was it? I thought it was a 1992 track from his King of Hearts album.

Another great song Rick wrote and would have been awesome with Fleetwood Mac would have been "Surrender To Me" which was recorded by McGuinn-Clark-Hillman (or, as I call them, The Byrds). It's VERY easy to hear how this would have translated. |

There were a few other songs that Rick re-did from that time: Walk Another Mile, Last Chance To Rock (which became Last Chance To Mambo), and Got No Home. For some reason, I think Desiree was also a song he submitted.

Stand on the Rock is actually pretty bad considering the talent of the man.
It is interesting that once again (as with many of the Mac members) Rick didn't sound as good on a Fleetwood Mac album as he did on his solo albums. We know that Billy and Bekka were later told that they were too country (according to Billy in an interview somewhere) but I wonder if Rick was told he sound "too blues". It is interesting to think that Fleetwood Mac as a band generally stifles creativity. There are several members who did their best work outside of the band. Mason, Bramlett, Vito, Walker, Burnette and others are obvious examples of this (in my opinion).

That McGuinn/Clarke/Hillman (ok, ok, ok...Byrds) album is really good all the way through!
Yeah, if Rick was "too blues", then what were Peter Green, Jeremy Spencer & Danny Kirwan?? "Got No Home" definitely had "hit potential"...God forbid a member of Fleetwood Mac risk having a hit song in the '90s if their name wasn't "McVie", "Nicks" or "Buckingham". THAT is my "conspiracy theory" as to why the song was left off BTM. Nope, this one never was re-done, although there was a short time in the early 2000's when Rick was going to use it for a commercial or something, if I recall correctly. I'm yes & no on those '90s members doing their best work "outside" the band...yes, they DID only because the fantastic work they did INSIDE the band was left in vaults until they did something with those tunes on their own.

The BTM band would have had another great album in them but instead, Mick and the label decided to put out a boxed set. Nevertheless, "Love Shines" became a big radio hit, at least here in Germany.
I feel they wasted a fine opportunity to put out another full length album of new songs. And this way, they wasted the opportunity to establish the new members as full equals amongst themselves. |
