Default Computer Help!

Suddenly out of nowhere, everytime I listen to a song on my computer, the beat is off, there is alot of static and it sounds awful and slowed down.

I played songs off Ares, it did that. Then I played my song on MySpace and it did that. What possibly could be wrong??? Music on my computer is so very important.

I just tried on another program. Wherever I play music, it's really bad.

Would a speaker ruin it that much? I never could play both speakers ( they are 6 years old) so I have always just had one ( the other just sits there) but would a bad speaker slow down the song and add that much static or could it be my actual computer?

It might be your sound system, it might be your sound card. It might even be corrupt sound files.

Put a music CD in your CD-ROM drive. What do you hear? Anything wrong?

What OS are you using? The OS usually has a sound diagnostics.

I don't know what Ares & MySpace are, but just try playing an MP3 in Winamp. Don't you have Winamp loaded on your machine? In general, eschew the weird stuff & use the tried-and-true freeware instead (like Winamp).

OS? I don't know what that is.

I played a cd and it was ok but not perfect, this after I changed some settings but it could be my sound card? The computer is only a year old!

I have to get to work but any advice ( and Im not computer savvy) would be great.
Thanks!

I have the same problem, Janet. I actually started a thread about it a while back, and no one responded - and never figured out what the problem was.

But I read a lot of PC-help message boards, and everything seemed to point to the sound card in my PC. If I try to play an mp3 on my machine, it's covered in static - whether thru Winamp, Windows Media Player, or the player that comes with my CD burner. And I sometimes get static from CDs played through the drive, but not always. I finally just gave up, burned everything, and play the music on my stereo system. No static there - so I know it's not the files.

My PC is much older tho - if yours is that new it could just be a software conflict. But no, I have no idea how to fix that either.

Thank you for trying. I will look into the sound card.

I will say I thought this was a good computer but my mom's computer which is the same kind and same age won't even turn on. It's totally dead. And these are only a year old. Go figure.

You'd be doing us a favor to mention the brand name. So we avoid it! Also---have you contacted the manufacturer's tech support? In a machine about a year old, someone should be able to help you with a basic question per the one you are asking. I'd be vey angry and squawk if my NEW computer acted up and I would demand a replacement. But that's just me. I don't pussy foot around with things. I say: HP LAPTOPS!!!!

I had a laptop for a few months and I hated it. I don't know why I am so partial to desktops, but I like sitting at a desk and typing. So old school I am LOL.

I have an E Machine. I heard good things about them for such a low price.

You get what you pay for. Seriously. How about Mom's busted computer? Same?? Again...there's tech support no matter what brand you have.

Yes there is. I will give them a call and see if there is any warranty. My mom had actually bought two of the same computer because one busted and then it worked so she gave me the second one she bought but now they both seems busted...

In the future, when you buy a new laptop:

Save the receipt!!

NEVER get "extended warranty" from the place you buy it. It's a RIP OFF.

Keep the phone number of the manufacturer nearby. Anything goes wrong CALL THEM. Do not take "no" for an answer.

Unless you sent in your paperwork with your new computer, do not expect a "warranty" girl. After all, it's after one year, yes? That's just gonna be hard cheese unless you were on top on that to begin with..

Again my mom bought the computer, not I. I had nothing to do with it. It was given to me since my computer totally fried a few months before that.

I always keep everything when *i* buy it, but my mother is another story!

Really? I've only heard bad things about E machines.
I got some kind of virus or something, that was MIXING my mp3's. I'd burn a cd, and one track would start to play, then it would play bits of OTHER mp3s(not even included on the burned cd!!!!!). After quite a few wasted cds, I think I finally deleted all the bad files. I hope that's fixed it!
