Say on thinking about the Oscars again and weak choices for best picture, remember The Last Emperor from '87? I remember that as being panned.

I loved "The Last Emporer" - in fact, I rented it recently to remind me of when I was in Beijing last year at this time.

I also saw "The White Countess" last night at the local art cinema. It is Shanghai in the 30's and I got a little weepy seeing that beautiful city again as I was there last year as well. The movie, however, is painfully glacierlike in movement, though worth renting as most Merchant Ivory productions are to these eyes. Also, when you star Ralph Fiennes, Natasha Richardson, Lynn Redgrave, Vanessa Redgrave, and John Wood - -you are worth checking out

I think it is "I Love You River!" but of course...I am sentimental and I love and miss the acting of his brother River and I understand the loss of a sibling and how it would affect him, even on such nights! What do you think?
