Quote from Philly
Hi all -
I haven't seen this posted anywhere else, but apologies if it has already been discussed... Before Peacekeeper, LB quoted someone (he didn't say who), and said "When love is gone, there's always justice. When justice is gone, there's always force." I just thought it was a great way to introduce that song...which was excellent also -Lisa

Hey Lisa!
I've been wondering what he's been saying (if anything) as he introduces some of the new songs especially. Thanks for posting that.

Laurie Anderson
I was trying to locate the source of that quote. One of the artists who seems to inspire Lindsey still today used a variation of that quote in one of her songs. It's in a song called O Superman and her words went like this:
When love is gone, there's always justice. When justice is gone, there's always force. And when force is gone, there's always Mom. Hi, Mom. Hehe. It's an interesting song. She talks about being wrapped in "mother's arms", where mother can be seen as mom and the mother country, and arms can be seen as mom's arms or firearms. So the quote above has a couple of meanings (just as Peacekeeper does). Incidentally, I looked up a site that has lyric interps of Laurie's songs and somebody there figured that Laurie's phrase was probably a paraphrasing of the following: Lao Tsu, Chapter 38: Therefore when Tao is lost, there is goodness When goodness is lost, there is kindness When kindness is lost, there is justice When justice is lost, there is ritual... Probably more info than you really needed, huh?

Leave it to Lindsey to not bother to say who he was quoting In the reviews of previous shows, I hadn't seen anyone mention that he had made any comments before Peacekeeper, so I was pleasantly surprised when he said this the other night. I wonder if it will be a routine thing or not? -Lisa P.S. Christy, LB said this at the Philly concert Monday night, and fortunately I had a piece of paper & pen in my purse, otherwise I never would have remembered it by the time I got home!

Lisa, nice seeing you around here again.
Lindsey said a couple of wordy things at the Philly concert, but I couldn't tell you what he said. Good for you for writing this one down. Lee |

Hi Lisa!
I'm so glad to see you posting again - thanks for the quote. Hope you'll speak up more often. Barbara Good idea to take paper and pen to concerts - or a tape recorder.

A tape recording might have come out ok, but then you'd have been listening to me cursing every time the man next to me got up for a beer. Could be entertaining though -Lisa
