I agree about "The Chain" and "Money".
Also, the intro of a Tindersticks song, "A Night In" (if I remember correctly) |

Most anything Charlie Mingus ever laid to tape.
As far as Mr. McVie, I actually think "The Chain" is rather overrated as far as the bassline goes. Sure, it's a cool riff, but that's really all it is. I don't think it really showcases his talents the way something like "Smile At You" does, or the Live performance of "Oh Well" (whoa!), or the Dance performance of "Say You Love Me," or "Miles Away" (whew!). That last one might be my favorite McVie bassline, actually. And while we're on the subject, "Go Your Own Way" has a great bassline too. Anything not John McVie?

I agree. It gives the song a nice, rich, warm tone. That bass line and Stevie's vocals make that song the greatness that it is.

I thought of another one:

You could list 90% of the New Order songs here. Why? Because most of them contain LEAD BASS, with the traditional basslines often taken care of by sequencers. If any bassist ever dominates a band in the minds of listeners, it's Peter Hook.
Case in point: Round And Round
