I tend to think the album title is a sort of double meaning:
- I'm guessing it's mostly alluding to the fact Fleetwood Mac had reconvened and recorded without her, with very mixed musical results, and a fair degree of nasty quarreling & dissatisfaction within the band. Meanwhile, Chris was living the life of quiet satisfaction she'd always wanted. - I also tend to think the title is a direct nod to the failed relationship the album centers around. She'd met this guy, sounds like she fell pretty hard for him (or was at least thoroughly intrigued by him), and he turned out to be a loser. In The Meantime could be a reference to what he was actually up to while she was falling for him, or it's referencing what she herself has been up to since she dumped him. Regardless, I love the mystery of the title & the fact Christine herself refuses to explain it. It's really one of my most treasured albums, I just adore it and am so glad we have it.
