I Am Waiting - how on earth does he play it?
Hello all,
This is one for the guitarists amongst us, of which I am just about one... I've just listened to Lindsey's version of 'I Am Waiting' for the first time in ages (it was in storage, along with most of my life) - and I was reminded of just how utterly wonderful it is. Such a beautiful arrangement, stunningly played. So different from the Stones' original, which is really basic in comparison. Do any of you guitar-wielders know how he plays it? It seems to be a non-standard tuning, am I right? But which one? Any thoughts on the finger-picking? Then there is the fact that he is able to sing while he plays it, but that's another thing altogether... Any tips would be very welcome. |

It's on the soundstage dvd, the one featuring Stevie, as a bonus track.
Here's a youtube link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ytnunZT3zJQ. Thanks for reminding me. I must have listened to it everyday for a month back in the day. |

Yes, I love the Soundstage version. He was on majorly good live form around that time, wasn't he?
On this clip you can see him tuning his acoustic before he plays - is it an open G? DADGAD? My ears aren't good enough: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=im6zZlWzKHQ |

It's open G with a capo. The place the capo is at on Soundstage isn't the same place it is on the album because he used the same guitar earlier in the concert for "Somones Gotta Change Your Mind" which is tuned to Open F. The first chord in "I am Waiting" is 010200 (Highest sounding string to lowest).

Also, one of The Ledge members posted this cover of it. The guitar is pretty good, but his singing is subpar imo. You can definitely see how to play the song from watching the video Last edited by AlexD; 10-22-2017 at 12:49 PM.. |

You should be proud! It's great work - and how you even begin to sing while you're playing something as complicated as that I've no idea.

I think I might have tabbed this out in PowerTab when the album originally came out but I have no idea where the files are or if PowerTab even exists anymore... If it is one of the ones I tabbed and if I can find it I'll post it
AlexD, really nice! The singing is absolutely grand Good job all round |
