Default Camper Van does Lindsey

I was just listening to some of the Camper Van takes on Tusk songs. I found myself gaining an appreciation for some of their takes that I didn't really appreciate at first. For instance, I am now digging "Walk a Thin Line," even though the xylophone riff is still a bit distracting. I am also getting into their version of "I Know I'm Not Wrong."

I still think their takes on "Save Me a Place," "Think About Me," "The Ledge" and "What Makes You Think You're the One" are quite inspired. "What Makes You Think You're the One" loses the anger but becomes a melancholy, amost introspective number. I still think "Sara" is too creepy and I wish they hadn't done that weird middle part in "Angel." Same for "Tusk," although there is a condensed version of "Tusk" that is much better.

Incidentally, Camper Van is now performing "Walk a Thin" line in concert, which replaces "Tusk."

Also, and believe me I don't get paid for this, Camper Van just released three new songs. You can get them at iTunes. A full-length album is coming in September.

The songs available at iTunes:

White Fluffy Cloud (bad-ass guitar rocker)
That Gum You Like (beautiful dreamy soundscape that you wouldn't expect with a title like that. Methinks this song was written in memory of George Harrison.)
51-7 (poppy number with grab-you-by-the-collar social commentary.)

Yeah, I have this. I hated it when I first heard it, thought it was an abomination even though it was supposed to be a tribute album. I'll have to go back and take another listen....maybe I'll grow to appreciate it as you have.

Thanks!! Jim O'Rourke is quite awesome. Unless you mean the sig I had of IKINW, in which case, Lindsey rocks too of course.

Very cool.

I met him when Sonic Youth came through Austin a few years back. They did a free show at Waterloo and he was REALLY nice and gracious. He even signed my husband's copy of Halfway to a Threeway! Anyway, I was most impressed by him, Thurston was totally in la-la land (I mean really, should I have expected anything less?!?!) and Kim acted like she was on 'ludes. She did sign my hand though! They were all great really....

IMO...

CVB does a BETTER job of What Makes You Think You're The One than Fleetwood Mac ever did... I think it works so much better as a laid-back kind of song. So kudos to CVB!

I also feel that their version of Sisters of the Moon is very strong... I like the emphasis on the bass drum and the cool sound it has. The way they "sing" it is kinda creepy, but no less awesome.

The Ledge, as always, is a masterpiece...

The rest of the songs are either on a par with FM or lackluster. I have not listened to the album in a while, however, so maybe I'll need to give it another go soon!

The main thing that bothers me about the Camper Tusk album is that a lot of the songs are drenched in reverb and other computerized effects. I understand this was necessary to restore some of the damaged recordings, but it gives some of the songs an artificial quality.

Overall, I think Camper did a great job. Their Tusk is irreverent, just as it should be. Hey, didn't Lindsey say that?

Can't say I like it much, but maybe I should hear it more. Anyway, if people are interested, I can put up a few songs for downloading on my site?

Ooh... I'd love to hear Over & Over, Mari. Only if you get a chance.
Or maybe WMYTYTO, since everyone's raving about it.

Wow thank you Mari, I can't wait to get these.
They're not working at the moment, maybe because of all the traffic from the BN mp3s, but that's cool, I can wait.
