Default Download recommendations

Since I'm new to the mp3 player world, I was hoping that people could post recommendations of songs to download. I'm still getting used to being able to get just 1 or 2 tracks by an artist, as opposed to purchasing a whole CD and when I go to search for music, and I find myself staring at the screen trying to think of who & what to search for.

I'm registered at Limewire, I've gotten pretty much everything I was looking for so far. I'd like to discover some new artists and/or older artists' obscure songs - and then if I hate it, I'll just delete it. I like a wide range of music, so pretty much anything goes - pop, rock, country, some R&B. I've heard people mention Scissor Sisters, Ryan Adams, the Decemberists, Nico Case to name a few - so gimme the name of a song to check out. If you'd like to post the files too, be my guest.

I have a few suggestions of my own. I'm not at home, so I can't post files right now :

"Long Ride Home" "Tony" "Living With Ghosts" "You Never Get What You Want" "Rain" Patty Griffin. I f*cking love her.

"While My Guitar Gently Weeps" Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney, Dani Harrison from The Concert For George. I saw this on TV a while back & it blew me away. I was thrilled to find the mp3.

"Where Would You Be" Martina McBride. Her voice just soars on this.

"River" Joni Mitchell. I know it's supposed to be a Christmas song. But it's so sad & beautiful, I'd listen to it all year.

"Ring of Fire" "Hurt" "Jackson" Johnny Cash. Hurt may make you cry.

Crap, I have no idea what to recommend! What are you looking for?

Rilo Kiley is cool, but you might know them already...

I might know them? Ryan, do you even know who I am? I don't know anybody. I asked you guys the other day if it was cool to like My Chemical Romance, for God's sake! I'm a lost soul. Well, OK, I know The Killers. But they're all over the place, so who doesn't.

Give me anything remotely cool. Any song you really like.

Since Carrie suggested Jenny Lewis, check out the band she's in, Rilo Kiley. For individual songs, I'd go with It's A Hit, Love and War (11/11/46), and Portions For Foxes. Those are off their latest album.

Hm....you could also check out Panic! At The Disco, although they can come off whiney and obnoxious. Their songs are catchy as hell though.

Song more bands and songs by them ()

The Forecast - Every Gun Makes It's Own Tomb

Taking Back Sunday - Cute Without the E (Cut from the Team)

The Smiths - How Soon Is Now

Snow Patrol - Run

The Elected - Fireflies in a Steel Mill

Stars - Your Ex-Lover Is Dead

I could go on forever. If you like some of those, cool. If not I can recommend something in a different direction.

^ Cool! Thanks dude.

Anyone have any lesser known tunes by well known artists that they like? Lisa - Cyndi? Dee - Beatles? Carrie - Emmylou? Sparky - Joni?

And hopefully Sharon will pop in with suggestions.

Paula- you should check out Brandi Carlile. She has one album out, self-titled, and an EP. If you like Patty, I think you'd really like her. And Rachael Yamagata. She has also has one album and an EP.

I've heard Rachael's version of River, but that's it. Thanks for the info.

I don't think you'd like anything I like other than what we already have in common, but I'd recommend anything by Tori Amos; especially Playboy Mommy, Siren, Precious Things, China, Space Dog, The Waitress, Spark, Taxi Ride and Sleeps with Butterflies

My son has turned me on to some new bands. I think it freaks him out when he comes in and ole Mom is listening to them..

I also like Avenged Sevenfold -- Seize The Day

Shinedowns cover of Simple Man.
